South Goa
Quieter and with a more laidback vibe than it’s northern neighbour, South Goa has fewer bars and less of a nightlife than North Goa but compensates for this with cleaner, more chilled out beaches. Established as a Portuguese colony in 1510, its tropical, palm lined roads are dotted with whitewashed churches, colourful cathedrals and small fishing villages.
While the long stretches of golden sand lend themselves to lazy barefoot days spent moving from hammock to pool to bar, South Goa’s colonial heritage and colourful local markets are worth exploring.
