Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.
Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.
The monsoon season usually runs from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more colour to the landscape.
October to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

Situated on the shores of Lake Pichola, in the heart of Udaipur, one of the most romantic and beautiful cities in India that we know, The Oberoi Udaivilas is a luxurious haven built in the style of Mewari palace.
The 87 rooms and suites recreate the luxurious ambience of a royal residence, complete with fountains and courtyards. Adorned with fine Indian textiles and custom made handcrafted furniture, rooms offer stunning views of the City Palace and the Aravali Hills overlooking Lake Pichola. All rooms have luxurious marble bathrooms with Victorian-style, free standing bathtubs that overlook private walled courtyards.

The hotel has two restaurants include the 'Udaimahal' serving traditional, Rajasthani and North Indian fare in regal surroundings and 'Suryamahal' offering a fusion of Western, Mediterranean and Thai cuisines. Alternatively guests can also enjoy picnic lunches aboard a private gondola.
The spa offers a wide range of treatments from holistic non-clinical to Ayurveda and aromatherapy and yoga sessions are also on offer. Furthermore the property adjoins a small wildlife reserve where peacocks, wild boar and deer roam so staying in this property really provides guests a feeling of getting away from it all!

Like other Oberoi properties, The Oberoi Udaivilas offers an outstanding stay with excellent service, great facilities and very grand bedrooms. The grounds are extensive here and great to walk around, especially as you take in the views across the lake.

I really enjoyed my stay at Udaivilas, there is a feeling of space and relaxation within the property and its location on the edge of the lake is perfect. It is close enough to the centre of Udaipur for you to be in town within 10 minutes should you want to do a little shopping or sightseeing with either a quick tuk tuk or for added glamour a boat across the lake to their private jetty. Yet it is far enough from the centre of town to feel utterly tranquil.
All the rooms are an excellent size, I would opt for one of Premier Rooms with direct access to the main pool or for more exclusivity the Superior Premiere Rooms all back onto a long shared pool with incredible views over the lake to the city palace. Perfect for a sunset swim.
The main restaurant Udaimahal has the ideal mix of local Rajasthani specialities (such as the pungent Laal Maas a deep red concoction of lamb and crushed chillies unlike any other curry I have tried before) alongside more contemporary Indian cooking and some western dishes too. The setting outside is perfect under the stars with those special lake views.

The Oberoi have kept within the style of Udaipur and built their very own palace on the shores of Lake Pichola. It is the very essence of opulence and beauty, with oodles of space. Something that is really great about this hotel is the number of private dining options there are on the banks of the lake. You feel like you own the place.

The Oberoi is perfect for a luxurious and supremely comfortable stay in Udaipur. With majestic views across the lake, sumptuously appointed rooms and exquisite service, you cant go wrong. Spread over a comparatively vast acreage the resorts facilities top those of any other hotel in Udaipur and if that wasn't enough, it features its own wildlife sanctuary, giving one a glimpse into the areas natural past.

Possibly my favourite Oberoi 'Vilas' property. It is located overlooking the lake, and I would always say go for a Premier Room with Semi Private Pool (the Lake View Rooms). What The Oberoi offers is space; the Lake Palace can feel a little bit enclosed at times, especially if you want to spend some R&R time in Udaipur. Whereas the Lake Palace doesn't offer much outdoor space, here you have plenty. Its also tucked away from the city, so you don't feel like it is on top of you, but close enough to experience it as much as you want. I always feel you could spend a week here quite easily.
