Vacations invariably take a different turn when your baby starts walking. Long-haul flights, jet lag and lengthy transfers are trying with a child who wants to be permanently on the move. Glass doors, steps and unfenced swimming pools become hazards. Fussy-eating and the need to stick to routine make meal times a challenge. Beaches are great but you need the ‘right’ sort (not too steeply-shelving, calm waters for paddling) and you don’t want a trek to get to them. And just keeping your child entertained and active can be exhausting. However, get everything right and not only will you have a fun and relaxing vacation for the whole family, but travel outside of school vacations and you’ll benefit from incredible off-season rates.
At Scott Dunn, we specialize in vacations for pre-schoolers and know the destinations and properties that work best for this age group. We provide our own outstanding childcare on chalet and hotel vacations in the Alps, villa vacations in France and Mallorca and at our Explorers kids clubs in five star resorts in the Mediterranean. In all our favorite toddler-friendly hotels, we know the rooms that work best and can arrange cots, high chairs, car seats and pre-arrival shopping so you don’t have to carry it all with you. If you do wish to travel further afield, we particularly recommend Mauritius, which offers night flights in both directions and a manageable minimal time difference; or our Explorers kids club at Niyama, which is the only one in the Maldives to take children under the age of 4.
