Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.
Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.
The monsoon season usually runs from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more colour to the landscape.
October to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

The Oberoi Rajvilas is a wonderfully grand property with excellent service and very spacious rooms. The property offers a selection of villas, tented accommodation and luxury rooms and, because it's located just outside of Jaipur, it has an air of peace and tranquillity away from the city's hustle and bustle. The food here is really delicious and they offer both an Indian and a continental menu.

Rajvilas was the first of the Vilas properties that Oberoi undertook and it was inspired by the wonderful Oberoi home at Naila Fort in the hills above Jaipur. The hotel feels very much like a resort with beautiful swimming pools and water flowing throughout its gardens. I found that it had an incredibly calming effect which is something that is definitely needed on an intense Rajasthan itinerary. The location is outside of the city centre but not so much that it becomes a chore to travel in and do some shopping. I found a couple of hours to explore the stalls of Bapu Bazar during my stay and it was an easy 25 minute journey in and out from the hotel.
The hotel has a grand spa with four private suites complete with their own steam rooms and changing facilities two of which are for couples making them perfect for relaxing together after a hard day at the Amber Fort. There are an additional 3 spa rooms on top of this meaning you will never struggle for availability.
There are also tennis courts a badminton court and a small pitch and putt course at the hotel meaning there is a bit more to fill the time in the afternoons or mornings when you are not out on day trips. I stayed in a Premier Room but fell in love with the Tented Suites which have a real safari feel to them with huge freestanding bath tubs. There is also a large 2 bedroom villa with a private swimming pool which would be the ideal base for a family with teenage children who wanted lots of space and privacy.

Rajvilas is luxurious and is set in peaceful grounds and really has the wow factor. I loved the tents here and the food was delicious. Not for those looking for a heritage option.

This was a real haven from the hustle and bustle of the city. The property sprawls over 32 acres of perfectly manicured gardens and rooms in clusters of six or tented suites, providing every convenience and modern luxury you could possibly ask for. The grounds play host to all myriad of facilities and if you need to land your helicopter theres room for that too!

I really liked the sense of space in this property whilst still being near enough to the city of Jaipur. This resort style property seemed to go on for miles and miles and felt very tranquil. There is a good range of room types at this property and if you missed the opportunity to stay in luxury Oberoi tents in Ranthambore - Rajvilas presents another opportunity to stay in one of their beautiful bespoke tents.
