Amritsar Golden Temple
Central is The Adi Granth, holy book, which rests on a throne under a jewel encrusted canopy.
You can also return in the evening to witness the 'putting to bed ceremony' - Palki Sahib Ceremony.
Palki Sahib ceremony is when the holy book 'Guru Granth Sahib' is carried to a room for the night. This is a very symbolic gesture.
The holy singing stops, certain hymns are read by the respected priest, then the book is closed. After performing the prayer, the book is then placed in a golden palanquin which is carried by all the devotees who are lined up to take Seva - Volunteer work. This all happens amidst chanting and reciting of hymns, a man will also blow his trumpet.
The entire ceremony is very spectacular and spiritual!
