Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months.
Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June. It’s the hottest season so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get great value for money if you don’t mind the heat. In western Rajasthan temperatures may soar, particularly in May and June, so we'd suggest avoiding Jaisalmer and the Thar Desert at this time.
The monsoon season usually runs from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. During this period 90% of the rain Rajasthan occurs, although in reality Rajasthan never receives much rainfall. Lakes and rivers will be higher and there's more colour to the landscape.
October to March is the best time to travel to Rajasthan. Expect warm and sunny weather, perfect for exploring and relaxing. Please note that hotels are at their busiest over the Christmas and New Year period. December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also normal to expect some fog in the major cities of northern Rajasthan in December and January.

Jagat Niwas is a beautiful boutique hotel in Udaipur. Hidden away down the winding cobbled streets of the centre of this fascinating city, the property is accessible only through the old city and strikingly situated on the banks of Lake Pichola.
Jagat Niwas is within walking distance from the main old market area of Udaipur. A striking hotel, guests love the unique layout of this property which you enter through the narrow streets leading from the Jadish temple.
The hotel was designed incorporating a cluster of old houses all now linked by a small courtyard in the hotel centre. The rooms are all on different levels and have a wonderfully homely and individual feel to them. The haveli is made in a typical Mewar architecture and provides a light, bright, community feel for its guests.
There are 29 rooms, all totally unique and all done in a charmingly simple design. The Restaurant overlooks the lake through stunning alcoves in which you can sit out on and watch the world go by. If you don't get a chance to stay here, you should definitely make time for a spot of afternoon tea.
There are twenty nine rooms at Jagat Niwas, each one unique to the other. Each room is situated around a central courtyard. Opt for a lake view for unspoilt views of Lake Pichola.
Children are welcome at Jagat Niwas, but please be aware there are no specific facilities available for them.
The delightful restaurant serves Indian and multicultural cuisine and has the most amazing view over the lake. It is a great place to enjoy an alfresco meal on the lake edge.
Most of the sight seeing places like the city palace museum, Jagdish temple, the crystal gallery and the lake palace are 10-minute walk distance from the hotel. The beautiful cobbled streets of the old city are just outside the courtyard, as is the shopping. For excursions to places around Udaipur like the monsoon palace simply ask at the travel desk.

Jagat Niwas is a much smaller, boutique property, located in the Old City amongst lots of souvenir and gift shops. The rooms here are much more suitable to guests on a budget as they are smaller and simpler than rooms in other luxury properties. However, the haveli boasts a wonderful rooftop restaurant where they serve well-priced, delicious food in the evening. The views across the lake are really incredible, especially as the sun sets in the distance.

if points were given for character this hotel would get 10/10. It was designed from lots of combined houese with the communal courtyard in the middle. You will feel like a travel not a guest and will want to explore every aspect of the place. All the rooms are unique and sweetly decorated and the lake side restaurant is a must. The only downside that I can think of is that the hotel does not have a pool, but if you are at the right time of year this would not be a problem.
