Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore the rest of this Indian land of mystery.

Insider's View

This property is perfectly named, as the sea will serenade you day and night. Be warned though, it is often too dangerous to actually swim in it.

For a private plunge pool, go for the Violin cottage.

With only four cottages, this is a great option for those wanting a property away from the crowds.

To start planning your holiday to A Beach Symphony

A Beach Symphony is a small boutique hotel run by husband and wife team Jan and Christel Arynn. An intimate property that blends interesting design with a traditional Keralan feel and ideal for those not wanting a larger resort style experience.

A Beach Symphony is a labour of love. Once four neglected traditional fisherman's cottages, the property showcases the owners' passion for design. A Beach Symphony is perfect for guests wanting a small, intimate hideaway on Marari's golden sandy stretch of beach.

All the cottages are slightly different, but all have air conditioning. Naturally, with traditional Keralan cottages, there is a tendency for rooms to be a little dark, but they use a huge amount of colour to compensate for this. The Sea View Cottages (Kombhu and Nagaswaram) are closest to the sea, with Violin and Sitar just behind them in the natural gardens. All have a slightly different colour scheme; bright orange for Kombhu, orange and lime for Violin, yellow for Sitar and deep red for Nagaswaram.

The food is delicious and served on your veranda. The seafood is bought from the local fisherman hours before so it is fresh and hugely tasty. For breakfast you get lots of fresh juice, fruit and south Indian options. Please note, there is no alcohol licence, but you can request drinks to be sourced.

It is an ideal retreat for those wanting something a little more authentic than the larger resorts located nearby. Don't expect 24-hour room service, hair dryers on demand or massively luxy surroundings - what you get is a quiet and traditional experience that some guests simply love.

A Beach Symphony is made up of four cottages each built in a similar Keralan style. Khombhu and Nagaswaram are closest to the sea. Violin also boasts its own pool, whilst Sitar is located in the natural gardens. Each cottage has been decorated in a bright but tasteful style.

Children are welcome at A Beach Symphony, but please be aware there are no specific facilities for them.

A Beach Symphony provides access to a beautiful pool surrounded by sun lounges for all the guests. Violin is one of the private cottages and is exclusive in that it has it's very own plunge pool enclosed by a cosy little courtyard. The beach is right on your door step, with hammocks and sun lounges set up looking out to the sea. Meals are served privately on your veranda and are tailored specially to your needs.

For those that do not feel like sitting on the beach and reading a book A Beach Symphony can offer lots of wonderful activities for you. Visit the local temples and churches, head out mountain bike trekking, or visit nearby Alleppey.

Charlotte Winter (Staff)

Located right on the beach and surrounded by beautiful gardens, A Beach Symphony is a small, intimate, boutique property offering just four cottages. Each of the cottages vary in style and size but are all beautifully furnished and have a large veranda at the front with loungers and day beds to relax on. The bathrooms here are also superb and include open-to-sky showers. There currently isn't a communal dining space so freshly prepared meals will be served to your veranda after chatting through the menu with the chef. This is a great property for those wanting something a little more rustic and away from the crowds.

  • Backwaters - Experience Kumarakom

  • Periyar - Boating at Lake Periyar
