The resort lies approximately 200 km south of Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo, with the Hambantota region bordering the sacred city of Kataragama and the Udawalawe National Park. With its emerald green fairways, Shangri-La’s Country Club will exhilarate even the most seasoned golfer with its 18-hole course. There are three parts to the course, the coconut plantation with its lush fairways and challenging bunkers, the dune area and its breathtaking views and the sapphire mine which has lots of water features to challenge even the most skilled golfer.
If golf isn't your thing, the resort has plenty of other activities to keep you entertained. Please note that the beach is not safe for swimming but there are two large pools for guests to enjoy. For something different attend the resort's pottery classes at the Village. Shangri-La Hambantota is located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The resort is situated 35km from Mattala Rajapaksa and 254km from Colombo International Airport.
When to go
From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4000mm a year. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C. The sea stays at around 27°C all year. Climatically speaking, the driest (and best) seasons in Sri Lanka are from December to March for the west and south coasts.
