Nadesar Palace is quite simply the best place to stay in Varanasi. It is located about 20 minutes from the main Ghats, but this gives you the breathing space to explore the city as and when you choose. The hotel was a guest house for East India Company officials, and as such retains a lovely heritage charm. Taj Hotels have also made the rooms very comfortable indeed using period furniture and fittings. Downstairs, there is an excellent spa meaning many guests now say they could easily spend 3 nights in the city having more time to relax before moving onto their next destination.
