Mughal architecture, artisan craftsmanship, impressive ramparts, and signature Six Senses Spa, make this a serene retreat and the perfect base for exploring the region.
Once owned by the Rajasthani royal family and backdropped by the Aravalli Hills, Fort Barwara has stood for seven centuries. Its conversion to a luxury resort has taken almost a decade of painstaking restoration by Rajasthan’s most skilful artisans. The walled site contains two palaces and two ancient temples, adorned with elegant pieces expertly hammered, woven, and carved by local craftsmen.
While away the day on the bespoke swinging daybeds and admire the views through windows framed with lattice screens and once rejuvenated, venture out to explore the local culture and wildlife. Guests benefit from a dedicated concierge, available 24-hours a day.

In common with all Six Senses properties, there is an emphasis on sustainability. Unnecessary plastic is avoided, produce is sourced from local farmers and the hotel’s organic garden and there is a natural wastewater system. The resort is also committed to working with local communities and you will find locals brewing hot masala chai and cooking barja rotis during the day and fresh nimbu paani detox drink counters dotted throughout the hotel. Bangle makers and block printers are also evident, setting up shop in little nooks around the resort.
An intoxicating blend of Rajasthani and contemporary design, the 48 suites all come with state-of-the-art technology. Flooded with light, the high ceilings, stone archways, and lavish furnishings are reminiscent of royal India. There are entry level one-bedroom suites and speciality suites, with the jewel in the crown being the Raja Man Singh Pool Suite, with a private garden, pool, and dining pavilion. Children are welcome, with a creche for younger ones and a teenage hangout. Age specific indoor and outdoor activities are on offer, along with children’s restaurant and spa menus, toys, games, and pool inflatables. Babysitting is free for the first two hours.
Guests can choose from three dining options. Housed in the fort’s observation tower, Mardana Mahal offers an intimate dining experience, showcasing regional Indian food. The Specialty Restaurant focuses on Rajasthani-inspired sustainable cuisine, or for a casual vibe, the Poolside Grill offers leisurely lunches by the water. For sundowners and cocktails, the leather club chairs in the oak-panelled Library Bar makes for an atmospheric setting or watch the sun sink below the hills in the Viewing Gallery Bar.
There are two swimming pools, a fitness centre and a Six Senses signature spa offering traditional Ayurvedic treatments. Located in the original women’s palace and across both ancient temples, this is a wonderful environment for inducing wellbeing. Also on offer are aerial yoga, fire meditations, chef-led clay pot cookery classes and personal training.
