Embark on a guided tour of Labrang Monastery, one of the six great monasteries of the Geluk (Yellow Hat) school of Tibean Buddhism. Founded by Ngawng Tsondru, the first Jamyang Zhaypa, it is the spiritual heartbeat of the region. Walk the"kora" around the monastery, observe the daily life of local monks and if you are lucky, witness the lively debate on Buddhism among the monks.
Proceed on to Gong Tang Paoda, the shrine to honour the Buddhist relic of 2nd Gong Tang Live Buddha. First built in 1805 and rebuilt in 1991, it offers a wonderful view of Labrang Monastery. Visit a nearby nunnery and learn about the nuns' daily rituals.
