Xining, China

This half day tour brings you along the pilgrims' route along the Kumbum Monastery. Visit the Dharma Protector's Hall, the Longevity Temple, Dharma Kalachakra Hall, Assembly Hall, Silver Stupa Temple and Yak Butter Sculpture Hall.

Sometimes referred to as Ta'er Monastery, Kumbum is located in a narrow valley just southwest of Xining and serves as the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, who founded the Gulugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. An important stop on the old Mongolia-Tibeta caravan route, there are four monastic colleges at Kumbum with over 400 monks.
