Begin by flying to Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital city, staying at the family friendly Sofitel in the exclusive Retiro district. There is lots for the whole family, from taking in a Boca Juniors soccer game and shopping till you drop, to learning some tango steps and dining out at fabulous steak restaurants.

Next fly to Puerto Madryn on Patagonia's Atlantic seaboard, where our driver will meet you and take you across the wildly beautiful Valdes Peninsula past sand dunes and salt pans to the El Pedral Lodge. Elephant seals, sea lions, whales are just some of the species you will see. A variety of exciting outdoor activities can be experienced such as sea kayaking and boat trips to view wildlife, horseback riding and open-water fishing for mackerel and sea bass.

Fly to El Calafate deep in southern Patagonia. This is a land of towering Andean peaks, enormous glaciers, shimmering jade-colored lakes and wide-open country ideal for horse riding, walking and getting to know the lifestyle of the hardy settlers and sheep farmers. For slightly older children, we would definitely recommend taking the mini-trek on Perito Moreno glacier. Don crampons and ice picks to enter a world of blue ice caves, crevasses and incredible vistas.

Continue to the Lake District to stay at the wonderful Llao Llao, a family-friendly luxury lodge on a lake that offers a superb range of outdoor activities for the whole family. Try your hand at sailing, archery, golf, nature trails, and a great deal more.

Fly back to Buenos Aires and head into the Pampas to an authentic working cattle ranch, Estancia Candelaria del Monte and ride across the vast plains, learning all about the gaucho traditions. In the evenings, enjoy a typical Argentine ‘asado’ BBQ and incredible Argentina home from home hospitality before flying overnight back home.
