Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Buenos Aires is a year round destination although October through to April is considered the best time to visit as temperatures are warmer. January is the hottest month with an average temperature of 25°C (76°F) and the coldest is July at 12°C (53°F).

Bariloche and the Lake District is best visited outside of the winter months of June to August, unless you are planning to ski. Whilst the weather is generally best in summer, spring and autumn bring beautiful colors and so may be favoured by nature enthusiasts.

Southern Patagonia is best visited from November to March when temperatures are milder but visitors should be prepared for strong winds and changeable weather at any time. It is worth considering traveling outside this time, especially rewarding in April (for autumn colors) or October (for spring flowers) because winds can drop significantly and there are fewer visitors in the National Parks. May to September is winter and many hotels in Southern Patagonia close for the season.

Itinerary

Discover Argentina’s wild side on this exciting adventure that takes you from the verdant forests and dazzling lakes of the Lake District, to the amazing glaciers and peaks of El Calafate, a very special remote estancia deep in the Andes and the wild beauty of El Chalten, one of the world’s best trekking destinations.

  1. Fly to Buenos Aires

  2. Days 1-2: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Begin in the capital Buenos Aires and discover the city’s energy and charm, from its wide boulevards and parks to its museums, superb restaurants and sultry tango shows. We’ve included a private tour with a local guide to give you insider knowledge on the best that this vibrant city has to offer.

Accommodation: Sofitel Buenos Aires Recoleta (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-6: Near Bariloche, Argentina

Fly south to Bariloche, gateway to the beautiful Lake District and Argentina’s answer to a Swiss chocolate town. You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the charming Estancia Peuma Hue. Nestled lakeside and surrounded by towering evergreens, the setting is picturesque. Spend your days here on self-guided hikes, kayaking on the lake or traveling further afield to discover the region’s expansive lakes, dense forests and hidden gems.

Accommodation: Estancia Peuma Hue (3 nights)

  4. Days 6-8: El Calafate, Argentina

Morning transfer back to Bariloche and fly to El Calafate, a town on the doorstep of the incredible Los Glaciares National Park, home to the world-famous Perito Moreno glacier. Exploring the glacier is a must when in Patagonia and we’ve included both a breath-taking boat trip along Lago Argentino that takes you up close to the glacier face and also a mini-trekking adventure, which will see you don crampons and ice picks to enter a world of blue ice caves, crevasses and incredible vistas.

Accommodation: Esplendor El Calafate (2 nights)

  5. Days 8-10: Lago Argentino, Argentina

Having visited one of Argentina’s top tourist attractions, today you’ll get away from the crowds and head to the remote and historic Estancia Cristina. Accessible only by boat, you’ll navigate to the north-western corner of Lago Argentino and head into the Cristina Channel. Follow in the footsteps of Estancia Cristina’s pioneering family as you discover the region’s incredible glaciers and majestic peaks on foot or horseback, seamlessly combining nature, adventure and history.

    Accommodation: Estancia Cristina (2 nights)

  6. Days 10-13: Lago Desierto, Argentina

The climax of this amazing journey is a stay at the magical Aguas Arribas Lodge. Head first by private-transfer to the town of El Chalten, one of the world’s best trekking destinations. Avid hikers may prefer to spend a couple of days in the town taking in some self-guided walks before heading onto Aguas Arriba, which is easily arranged. We love Aguas Arriba Lodge thanks to its secluded and spectacular location on the edge of Lago del Desierto. Spend your days hiking less-trodden trails and enjoy spellbinding views of the lake, to the north face of Mount Fitz Roy, Mount Torre and the Vespignani Glacier from this rustic, warm and exclusive lodge.

Accommodation: Aguas Arriba Lodge (3 nights)

  7. Fly home from Buenos Aires

  8. Days 13-14: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Transfer back to El Calafate and board a flight to Buenos Aires for a final night in the capital.

Accommodation: Sofitel Buenos Aires Recoleta (1 nights)
