The temperature on the northeast coast near Jericoacoara beach is constantly stable, rarely under 25C or over 35C. The rainy season is between February and May, and the sun shines all year round. July to November the wind is strong, which favours those wanting to Windsurfing and Kitesurfing.
Distinctly cool and boasting one of the world's best kitesurfing schools, Rancho do Peixe sits just south of the kitesurfing capital of Jericoacoara, on Brazil's northeast coast. Powdery sand and rustic wooden bungalows make for an idyllic barefoot break.
A collection of 26 rustic wooden bungalows line the shore at Rancho do Peixe, a beach-chic haven where consistent winds attract kitesurfing enthusiasts the world over. June - November is prime kitesurfing season, and while the region is a firm favourite amongst the professional circuit, the Rancho do Kite school on site offers structured learning for total beginners, right through to experienced surfers. Rancho do Kite is renowned as one of the world's best kitesurfing schools, and with the ideal conditions, experienced instructors and radio technology to help improve your technique while you are out on the water, it's easy to see why.
Even those who prefer to stay on land will find plenty here, with the impressive Jericoacoara dunescapes a short distance away for some adventurous hikes or horse rides and the powdery white beach a prime spot for relaxing. Hammocks and lounging areas hug this enclave of beach-chic bungalows, constructed from reforested trees and materials sourced from the local area. Comfortable and colourful, the bungalows comfortably accommodate up to four guests and can be opened up to let the outdoors in should you wish.
Following adventures on land and out on the water, retreat to the spa or bar area to tuck into freshly prepared cocktails, a bowl of delicious acai or a cooling beer. Healthy snacks, regional cuisine and Mediterranean delights await at the restaurant and restore energies ready for the days ahead. This is a perfect stop on route to the furthest northeast corners of Brazil, or an ideal beach break for active couples and families.
There are 26 individual cabanas at Rancho do Peixe, 14 of which enjoy ocean views and 12 of which sit behind surrounded by the coconut grove. They all feature a king bed, a sofa bed and can accommodate an additional bed if necessary. They are rustic yet fully furnished with modern amenities and beautifully designed to let the outside in, with large windows that fold back and indoor/outdoor bathrooms. Coconut Grove bungalows are exactly the same as the ocean view except for the fact they have an outdoor shower, and they don't have coffee machines or tea included (free tea and coffee is provided in the communal lounge however).
Rancho do Peixe has a world-renowned kite school which is perfect for kitesurfers of all abilities, regardless of experience. Besides this, there is a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, TV room with coffee and tea available and plenty of lounge space. The restaurant serves plenty of healthy snacks, including bowls of acai to help keep surfers' energy high!
Kitesurfing and windsurfing is the name of the game here, as conditions are pretty much perfect for 2/3 of the year. However, those who prefer to stay on land or explore further afield have plenty of options. The hotel is just a dune buggy ride away from the town of Jericoacoara, where you can find the famous sunset dune, some great dining options, nightlife and yet more fantastic kitesurfing.
Head out to the surrounding sand dunes and lagoons by dune buggy, ATV, horseback or 4x4 and soak in the spectacular beachscapes. Adventure activities are on offer in abundance, from SUP, kayaking, horse riding and dune bashing. This is a great destination for families with little ones or teenagers, as well as adventurous couples.
