BC’s varied climate is influenced by latitude, elevation and ocean proximity but it’s generally warmer in the south and cooler in the north. Winters are mild in Vancouver and Victoria, with only brief snowfalls, while other regions – especially the north and the interior – are subject to freezing temperatures and heavy snow from November to March.
Spring and fall are often warm and pleasant but rainfall can be heavy, particularly on the coast. Summers (June to September) are mostly dry and sunny with warm temperatures, but the interior is hot in July and August, with temperatures surpassing 30°C

For that stunning "cabin on a lake" experience, Tyax Mountain Resort and Spa offers a taste of true Canadian wilderness, yet with home comforts aplenty. Enjoy views off a tranquil crystal clear lake framed by pine forests and snow capped mountains.
To reach the peace and calm of Tyax Mountain Resort and Spa, it is necessary to put in a little more effort, but it is well worth the 6-hour drive from Vancouver. With the last 2 hours being on a dirt road, albeit a well made one, this is a place that few venture to. This is part of it's special charm though, offering a true Canadian experience, with the back up of excellent facilities, cuisine and activities. Add to this the choice of cosy lodge rooms or a private chalet, possibly directly on the lake, and it's difficult to tear yourself away.
Nestled behind the mountains in the lesser known Cariboo Chilcotin region, the resort has an idyllic location. The mountains protect it from the weather fronts that sometimes crawl in, making it often beautifully warm and sunny in the summer months. The lake is a playground with canoes, kayaks and paddle boards the ideal way to explore it's boundaries above the crystal clear waters. Drop a fishing line off the dock or plunge in for a refreshing swim. For those less keen on the water, there is mountain biking aplenty available with bike rentals and bike tours from the resort. There is also gentle horse riding, perfect for beginnners or those with a little experience. Hiking trails surround the property, with pretty forest and lake trails.
Back at the main lodge, there are just 29 rooms and 3 cabins ensuring a small and intimate feel. Delicious food is prepared with ingredients from the resort's own kitchen garden and meals are enjoyed out on the lake view deck or inside on chillier nights. Evening entertainment is sitting around the fire pit or playing a game of pool in the lounge. For a little pampering, head to the Spa at Tyax which comes complete with outdoor jacuzzi looking down toward the lake.
Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple or a family, Tyax Wilderness Resort and Spa has something for everyone. If you're welcome to come that little bit further off the beaten track, you will be rewarded with a truly Canadian experience in an inspiring setting.

It's rare in life that you arrive somewhere and simply utter that word "wow". My arrival at Tyax was one of those times. Driving up the road toward the lodge we caught glimpses of the lake through the dense woodland, however, it wasn't until the lodge was in front of us in it's log cabin style that we turned to see the most pristine, beautifully set lake, the epitome of Canada scenery, with a simple jetty jutting out from the shore adorned with a smattering of kayaks and canoes just waiting to be taken out to enjoy the crystal clear waters. I'm a sucker for water scenery and this place just has it all. Just after we arrived, the lodge's float plane also treated us to a fly pass as it took off to go back toactually I'm not sure where, perhaps Vancouver or Whistler which it regularly offers flights to. That is the joy of Tyax, you truly are in the middle of nowhere, 6 hours drive from Vancouver, yet you can be here within 90 minutes by floatplane and enjoy incredible scenery along the way too. Inside, it's a little more conventional in it's feel but still retains that homely log cabin feel. There are just 29 rooms here which keeps it small and intimate and then 3 private cabins that can be rented and are the ultimate in lake living. Set in the forest or down on the lake shore, it's a cabin on a lake yet still with the comforts and luxury of the hotel. Days here are spent trail walking, mountain biking or canoeing or kayaking on the lake. They also have horses here, more for beginners rather than experienced riders and I enjoyed a lazy trail ride through one of the forest trails down to the lake which was very pleasant. Food was a pleasure too as we were treated to lunch in the lodge's restaurant. Only a menu of 7 or 8 dishes, however, they are lovingly selected and beautifully presented and taste delicious too. Tyax is a lovely escape for those who want to experience Canada's beautiful lake wilderness, however, would like a little home comfort along the way. Its' not luxury, however, it's incredibly good value and that view? Well, that's completely priceless and worth the effort ten fold!
