BC’s varied climate is influenced by latitude, elevation and ocean proximity but it’s generally warmer in the south and cooler in the north. Winters are mild in Vancouver and Victoria, with only brief snowfalls, while other regions – especially the north and the interior – are subject to freezing temperatures and heavy snow from November to March.

Tofino tends not to experience snowfall, however, is susceptible to impressive Pacific storms that are fascinating to watch from January to March

Spring and fall are often warm and pleasant but rainfall can be heavy, particularly on the coast. Summers (June to September) are mostly dry and sunny with warm temperatures on the coast typically in the low to mid 20's with hotter temperatures inland surpassing 30°C at times in July and August.

From the moment I stepped into The Wick, I could tell it was a very special place. Their tagline 'rustic elegance at nature's edge' sums it up perfectly; The stylish cosy rooms make you feel instantly relaxed, the beautiful interiors combine interesting and modern design features with local art and natural rustic materials, the attentive hospitality and talented chefs are something to be celebrated, and the spectacular scenery, jagged rocks, and mesmerising rolling waves on Chesterman Beach could never get old.

The star of the show has got to be The Pointe restaurant. The combination of its amazing views, excellent service from waiting staff who evidently love their job, and the very talented culinary team make any meal here one to remember. The town of Tofino is committed to eating and serving sustainable, island-grown produce, and The Wick follows suit... Executive Chef Barr and his team make absolutely everything in house, from delicious fresh bread and house churned butter to sauces, sausages, ginger beer and artistically crafted cocktails!

The Wick is one of my firm favourites in Canada, it is truly a hunker down experience in the autumn and winter with the fantastic storm surges and it is just a great place to watch a storm from! Even the massage room has a view out onto the water and everything is orientated around the beautiful quiet Chesterman Beach. Of course, in the summer months it goes without saying that the hotel is also fantastic with all of the rooms having a view of the water and the only thing you will need to decide that morning is whether to go surfing, cycling or walking. If you are lucky enough to have a stormy day, then just enjoy it from the cosiness of your room and balcony. The Wick is just a 5 minute drive from the surfing town of Tofino, with its multitude of surf shops and souvenir shops to while a way an afternoon. The history that surrounds this whole area with the explorers that founded the island is all poured into the property and if you do see Charles and his wife around the resort then he would be more than happy to tell you more, I'm sure.

Overlooking a magnificent seascape and the wonderful Chesterman Beach The 'Wick' as it is fondly called is one of the most lovely hotels in this part of Vancouver Island. Delicious food, sweeping views, The Point Restaurant's 180 degree views make you feel as if you are on a ship looking over the ocean. Sleeping to the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore was magical and the service and staff are great - all the reflection of a family owned hotel. Charles and his team ensure you will have the most amazing experience here.
