Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Vancouver's climate is the mildest in Canada, averaging 20°C in summer and 2°C in winter. But you don't hear much about that accolade. Instead you hear about the rain. Bucket loads of it fall, especially in winter (January, February and March). In the mountains, a mere 20 minutes away, this translates into snow for excellent skiing. TThe average seasonal snowfall at 1600m (5000 feet) is a spectacular 25 metres (75 feet), four or five times the average in most areas of the Alps. July through September are the best bets for sunshine

BC’s varied climate is influenced by latitude, elevation and ocean proximity but it’s generally warmer in the south and cooler in the north. Winters are mild in Vancouver and Victoria, with only brief snowfalls, while other regions – especially the north and the interior – are subject to freezing temperatures and heavy snow from November to March.

Spring and fall are often warm and pleasant but rainfall can be heavy, particularly on the coast. Summers (June to September) are mostly dry and sunny with warm temperatures, but the interior is hot in July and August, with temperatures surpassing 30°C.

After exploring the city, collect your car hire and drive north on the glorious Sea to Sky Highway to the alpine adventure village of Whistler. Best known for its winter skiing, Whistler attracts thrill-seekers and adventure lovers of all ages, year round. The village comes alive during the summer when many of the ski trails turn to mountain bike tracks and bears come out of hibernation. From heli-hiking, white-water rafting, zip-lining or simply a gentle walk up on the mountains; there's something for everyone. Families will love heading out at sunrise on a bear viewing tour, so we have included this especially for you.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Whistler (3 nights)

  3. Days 7-11: Tofino

From Whistler, make your way down to Horseshoe Bay and take a ferry across to the pristine Pacific Rim National Park on Vancouver Island. This is a great opportunity to watch for whales in the distance and kids will love the sense of adventure of taking a ferry across to the island. Once you have arrived in Tofino, you can breathe in the fresh Canadian air, stroll on driftwood strewn beaches and admire the incredible coastal scenery from your room. With four nights here, you’ll have plenty of time to explore and families will love heading out on a zodiac in search of humpback whales and grizzly bears. You may also choose to have a surf lesson or head out in a traditional Canadian canoe to learn about the First Nations communities.
