Description

Guests can enjoy an authentic Baja experience at this boutique nineteen room hotel. Every guestroom is individually decorated with local artwork that sets the tone of each room’s personality. Sliding glass doors open onto your private terrace, shaded by a canopy of bougainvillea and bamboo, where you can relax on your own personal hammock or enjoy in-room spa services.

There is a restaurant and outdoor palapa bar with views of the hotel's waterfalls and heated swimming pool. The small restaurant has a rich menu of Mexican and European dishes, served either indoors or al fresco in the romantically lit courtyard and is acknowledged as one of the favorite restaurants in San Jose.

The hotel has a daily shuttle service to the Beach Club shaded by palm trees and with a restaurant, bar and pool overlooking the ocean. The hotel can also arrange excursions to Santiago, where you can enjoy jumping from waterfalls and swimming in the thermal waters and natural pools and any other local excursions you require.

One of the regions biggest draws is the annual whale migration, with peak whale watching season being from December through to April. Baja offers plenty for the active traveler and couples; from hiking to surfing, snorkeling, diving and wildlife watching and marine park exploration to swim with sea lions and spot whale sharks. For culture vultures, there is also the attraction of rich Mexican arts and culture in San Jose and Todos Santos, world-class food experiences, traditional festivals and extended trips to crumbling Spanish Missions and UNESCO heritage sites.

Casa Natalia can also arrange horse riding and tennis for their guests.

When to go

Baja California is a rare destination that offers a great getaway year long. Peak time for travel is when weather is temperate in the low 20ºc range and whale watching opportunities are at their best (late-November to April). This also includes the festive vacation and New Year period. Cool temperatures are ideal for desert adventures and hiking and boating for wildlife viewing and island exploration. Summer (April to September) can be hot and humid but the beaches are less crowded. Summer waters are ideal for snorkeling and diving. Hurricanes are much less common than in the Caribbean, but it is something to be aware of for September and October travel which is considered low season.

Baja is blessed with two marine life rich oceans; the Sea of Cortez to the east has a warmer sea temperature than the more exposed than the Pacific Ocean to the west. In the summer the breeze coming from the Pacific is a blessing.

For those interested in surfing, waves break on the eastern side of the peninsula March to October and on the Pacific west November to March. The most popular summer breaks start in San Jose and extend up to the Eastern Cape making Los Cabos an excellent base. In the winter the best breaks are south of Todos Santos at Cerritos Beach.

When planning your visit, it is worth noting the peninsula's main fiestas. Each March San Jose del Cabo throws an 11-day long Fiesta Patronal with parades and carnival and La Paz holds a similar event. Easter is also a busy time for Mexican's heading to the beach to celebrate Semana Santa and September 16 is Mexican Independence Day which is a fun time to visit La Paz where celebrations are well funded.
