The Retreat is located on an amazing stretch of private land, just north of Matemwe’s main lodge and right opposite the Mnemba Atoll - famous for superb diving and snorkeling.
The three villas are all uniquely designed. The ground floor of each villa features a private cocktail bar, air-conditioned bedroom, bathroom with double basins, shower and a large romantic bathtub overlooking the Indian Ocean. The best part of each villa is the plunge pool on the private roof terrace, complete with sun and shade decks. The beach is a short walk from the villas.
Service in the Retreat is of the highest standards, with a personal butler service in each villa. All meals and drinks are delivered to the villa or to the beach in front of the Retreat. Massages and beauty treatments are offered in the comfort of your roof terrace, overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The Retreat Villas are perfect for couples and honeymooners looking for a totally private villa experience. You can be completely self contained eating your meals in your own dining area (or where you choose!), relaxing in your own sitting room or deck and using your own private rooftop pool. For those looking for a place to escape and be just the two of you, it is absolutely ideal! Should you want to be more social, you can always walk to Matemwe Bungalow's main bar which is next door.
Activities such as diving, snorkeling, day trips to Stone Town, a spice tour around the island, dolphin trips and much more can easily be organized.
Matemwe Retreat consists of four self contained, private villas, each with uninterrupted views of the turquoise Indian Ocean. The ground floor of each villa features a private bar area, an air-conditioned bedroom and a bathroom with double basins, shower and a large oversized bath. A spacious veranda equipped with a comfortable couch and large hammock provides the perfect spot to unwind. The private roof terrace has a plunge pool complete with both sun and shade decks.
Matemwe Retreat welcome children over the age of 12 years to come and stay. Due to the nature of the resort being quiet and intimate, younger ones are not permitted.
Matemwe Retreat has a spa offering a range of massages and beauty treatments which can be enjoyed in the privacy of your villa. Some time spent at the spa is the perfect way to leave you feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. The Retreat also offers in-villa dining and a full butler service should you want it.
Local snorkeling and diving sites are suitable for all levels of experience, from beginners to experienced divers. Guests can snorkel straight from the beach or during reef walks and kayaks are available to explore the crystal clear sea.
From the villas day-trips can be arranged to the historic center of Stone Town, Jozani Forest or Prison Island, or a Spice Tour to learn about the great variety of spices that the island is famous for.
A dedicated butler will ensure that every whim is catered for. Select your menu with the chef each morning, sip a fresh cocktail in your plunge pool and enjoy a relaxing massage in the privacy of your villa. Or, leave your sanctuary to dive and snorkel at the nearby reef - tailor your day to suit yourself.
