Situated only 6° south of the equator, Zanzibar enjoys ideal holiday weather. Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day.
There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April and May, but even then it does not rain every day. These rains replenish the Island and are often referred to as the “Green Season”.
To start planning your holiday to Matemwe Retreat
Matemwe Retreat comprises four luxurious private villas, superbly located to enjoy the beautiful beach and explore the nearby reefs off the island of Zanzibar. The Retreat villas pride themselves on first class service, privacy and food.
The Retreat is located on an amazing stretch of private land, just north of Matemwe’s main lodge and right opposite the Mnemba Atoll - famous for superb diving and snorkelling.
The four villas are all uniquely designed. The ground floor of each villa features a private cocktail bar, air-conditioned bedroom, bathroom with double basins, shower and a large romantic bathtub overlooking the Indian Ocean. The best part of each villa is the plunge pool on the private roof terrace, complete with sun and shade decks. The beach is a short walk from the villas.
Service in the Retreat is of the highest standards, with a personal butler service in each villa. All meals and drinks are delivered to the villa or to the beach in front of the Retreat. Massages and beauty treatments are offered in the comfort of your roof terrace, overlooking the Indian Ocean.
The Retreat Villas are perfect for couples and honeymooners looking for a totally private villa experience. You can be completely self contained eating your meals in your own dining area (or where you choose!), relaxing in your own sitting room or deck and using your own private rooftop pool. For those looking for a place to escape and be just the two of you, it is absolutely ideal! Should you want to be more social, you can always walk to Matemwe Bungalow's main bar which is next door.
Activities such as diving, snorkelling, day trips to Stone Town, a spice tour around the island, dolphin trips and much more can easily be organised.
