Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.
Built in 1905, Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is a family run, colonial-style house outside of Arusha town. A wonderful place to start or end a Tanzania trip, the extensive gardens and large pool are quiet, relaxing and give you stunning views of Kilimanjaro.
Just a 30-minute drive from both Arusha town and Kilimanjaro Airport, Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is perfectly located for a relaxing stay either before or after a Tanzanian safari or Kilimanjaro climb. On the slopes of Mount Meru, at an altitude of 4,000 feet, Ngare Sero has wonderful vistas of Kilimanjaro. Surrounded by verdant forest reserve, it's home to many species of bird, and colobus and Sykes' monkey.
With just 10 garden rooms and three suites, the lodge is small, charming and welcoming. Furnished with local materials, Ngare Sero strives to be environmentally friendly, and rooms feel at one with their natural surroundings. Rooms are comfortable and all individually decorated using traditional fabrics and handcrafted furnishings. Each garden room has its own private veranda.
Delicious home cooked meals are prepared using the finest local ingredients, from the organic vegetables grown in Ngare Sero's vegetable garden to the fresh trout caught in the lake. Meals can be served in the dining room, an outdoor tented dining area, or for a more romantic setting, in the secluded pavilion overlooking the lake.
A secluded haven away from the bustle of Arusha, Ngare Sero has a 30-metre swimming pool, and for those looking to be more active, an on-site stable with horse riding lessons around the lodge or village trails. Further afield, trips into Arusha National Park can be arranged, as well as coffee farm and cultural tours.
