Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.
Strategically located close to the Ngorongoro Crater, this small tented camp nestles in a beautiful acacia forest and offers a sociable and relaxed accommodation just a 10-15 minute drive from the flora and fauna of the crater floor.
With just 9 tented rooms, Lemala Ngorongoro is a small, intimate camp dotted throughout the acacia trees with an enviable location on the eastern side of the crater, allowing guests a head start over visitors arriving from the busier western edge. Within a 10 to 15 minute drive you can be down on the crater floor amongst the prolific wildlife and spectacular landscapes of the astounding Ngorongoro Crater.
The tented rooms of the camp are relaxed and comfortable, with two queen beds in each and warm duvets, hot water bottles and gas heaters creating a cosy retreat. A dressing area, flush toilet and large shower bring home comforts, while a veranda offers space to sit out and enjoy the tranquillity of the ancient forest.
Lemala Ngorongoro is a friendly, welcoming camp where meals are served communally after sundowners around the campfire. Fellow guests soon become friends as you share stories of the day’s sightings over a drink as the sparks dance to join the stars in the night sky. A mess tent is an informal area to unwind in, sinking back into one of the sofas, curling up with a book from the shelves or sitting out on the veranda to soak in the view.
Travel in open top 4x4 vehicles to the crater floor and you enter a magical world of unbelievable wildlife encounters and dramatic landscapes. The privileged location of Lemala Ngorongoro allows earlier access to the crater floor and your wildlife viewing can begin before other vehicles arrive. An escorted walk along the crater’s rim is another opportunity to explore the extraordinary beauty of the region, while a crater walk to a traditional Maasai Boma is a chance to discover the cultural wealth and fascinating lifestyle of the Maasai.
Benefiting from a superb location that allows privileged access to the Ngorongoro Crater, this small camp offers friendly, informal accommodation within reach of the iconic wildlife and flora of the crater floor and rim.
Lemala Ngorongoro is based on the eastern side of the UNESCO world heritage site, the Ngorongoro crater, an hour and 45-minute drive from the Manyara Airstrip.
