Kuilau Ridge Trail

The trail runs 2.25 miles each way with a gentle climb of 790 feet. You'll be able to see Kawaikiki and Mt. Wai'ale'ale, one of the wettest places on earth. The trail is self guided and easy to follow and is surrounded by an abundance of native and non native plants. See deep forested canyons and if it has been raining, waterfalls visibly cascade down the mountainside bringing new meaning to the word "green". Pass across a charming foot bridge and open out in to a garden like wood before finally reaching the beautiful view of Kapehua'ala, the highest peak of the Makhala Mountains.
To get to the trail head you take highway 56 from Lihue North, then take an immediate turn on to Kuamo'o Road (Hwy 580) and drive 8 miles as it winds toward Keahau Forestry Arboretum, The pavement ends at a stream crossing where there will be a visible sign for the Kuilau Ridge Trail. There is parking on the right hand side.
