The Louisiana plantations are an important part of the state’s history and while they represent some of the area’s darkest times, a visit to a plantation is a thought provoking and unforgettable experience. On this private tour you will visit two plantations, Whitney, and Laura. Both architecturally beautiful, with wonderful gardens and historic artefacts, each house will reveal its specific story, along with those who lived and worked there.
Your first visit will be to Whitney Plantation a former sugar plantation with a museum that focuses on plantation life from the perspective of the slaves. You will learn about their lives and visit the preserved slave cabins, along with seeing the Spanish Creole Big House. You will then head to Laura Plantation, stopping for lunch at a local eatery (pay direct). Laura is also a well-preserved sugar plantation, built in 1804 and during the tour your guide will share the stories of both the free and enslaved people who lived there for over 7 generations. Again, the stories, main house, slave quarters and gardens, offer a fascinating insight into Creole history. At the end of the day, your guide will take you back to your hotel.
