At an elevation of 3900 feet (1200 meters), Xandari enjoys a near–perfect temperature of around 27°C all year, although November to April are the best months for sunshine. The ‘Green’ season, from May to October, is a good time to visit: it’s sunny in the mornings with rain in the afternoons. The quietest period is April to early June. The rain can be particularly strong in September and October. Rafting is possible all year round, though the river might be slightly colder during the green season.

Only 20 minutes away from San Jose international airport, this property is by no means an airport hotel, with its colorful colorful, spacious villas bursting with character, beautiful views over the Central Valley, and romantic trails and waterfalls - it is the perfect place to immerse yourself completely in true Costa Rica, from the very first day. It's restaurant enjoys sweeping views of the valley, not only to be appreciated by day, but offers the glittering lights of San Jose to accompany it's dinner service. These views can be enjoyed from villas and the three swimming pools - a wonderful way to watch the sunset come up over your first full day in Costa Rica. With a commitment to the environment, the menu at Xandari commits to a real farm to table selection of interesting and exciting a la carte options, mostly sourced from the impressive on site greenhouse and farm, which you can enjoy a leisurely stroll to see in action on the main trail.

This retro hotel is really quite unusual, definitely not a run-of-the-mill place. Its quirky and arty design means it attracts a rather bohemian crowd, and the food is really something special.
It's well located to make the most of nearby activities and excursions, and it was a welcome escape from the busy streets of San Jose.
The spa was heavenly, its treatment rooms had a 'palapa' thatched roof, with incredible views of the valley. Well worth indulging!

The Xandari Plantation has a lovely setting within tropical gardens overlooking the central valley and I really enjoyed spending time here on arrival in Costa Rica. The hotel is brightly decorated and showcases art from the owner, which might not be to everyone's taste as it is quite tropical however I really liked it and the fact that Xandari is so totally unique with lashings of character. It is a nicer option than staying in San Jose city itself and the views are lovely. The great thing about Xandari's location is that it is well placed for guests looking to take part in a range of outdoor activities such as volcano excursions, zip wiring and white water rafting but also for those looking to chill out and do nothing and they have an excellent spa.
There are 22 villas in the bird- and butterfly-filled grounds of the Xandari Resort on the outskirts of San José. Some of the coffee plants in this 40-acre plantation have been replaced with native plant species to encourage the wildlife, but there is still more than enough coffee to go round. As well as being served in the hotel's restaurant, some of the beans are crushed and used in the spa's Coffee Scrub treatment. This being Costa Rica, the emphasis is on the natural surroundings, and guests can explore Xandari using a series of walking trails that criss-cross the grounds. They are also encouraged to plant a native tree before they leave.
