Average time to visit

November to April is the best time of year to visit Arenal and is the 'drier' season in Costa Rica. The ‘green’ season is from May to September, which sees tropical showers most afternoons. The quietest period is April to early June. The rain can be particularly strong in September and October. December to March is high season and hotels do get booked up months in advance so best to plan early.

All or the 50 rooms at Nayara Gardens are free-standing, which make them private and romantic. The Deluxe casitas have a king bed with a canopy or two double beds, a wooden deck, jacuzzi and hammocks and a bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower. The Rainforest Villas are more spacious with a King size canopied bed, enormous bathrooms with stunning indoor and outdoor showers and wrap-around decks with a jacuzzi and hammock. Added extras include free international phone calls in all of the rooms and complimentary laundry when staying in the Rainforest Villas. There is also a three-bedroom Arenal Villa which is ideal for families.

Children are welcome, and the hotel is family friendly, but there are no specific children's facilities and none of the rooms connect. The Deluxe Casitas can fit extra beds for children.

Facilities at Nayara Gardens include a small outdoor pool, thermal water-filled pools and a wide choice of dining options - La Terraza restaurant serves gourmet Costa Rican fare with an international edge and on Saturdays offers a popular seafood grill, Nostalgia wine bar has tapas and wine pairing dinners and a state-of-the-art wine dispenser, Kali Kali pool bar serves snacks and cocktails and at Asia Luna is given a Latin twist. .

This small resort welcomes you with nice, spacious casitas and comfy hammocks on the porch that are well hidden behind lush gardens. While the reception area is big and kind of what you expect when entering a resort, the casitas and restaurants are small buildings and all blend in with the tropical surroundings and gardens. They have planted lots of Cecropia trees which are the favourite trees for the famous Costa Rican sloth. I saw a Mama and a baby sloth munching on the leaves just outside the Spa.

The Nostalgia bar offers some great wine tastings and delicious tapas. Make sure to check the espresso bar they roast their own coffee and you can really smell and taste the difference. Great resort that combines comfort and luxury with lush gardens and an authentic feel.

Great hotel with a boutique feeling in the rooms, but all the facilities and service provided by a resort. The a great way for families or honeymooners alike to experience the Arenal area, with their great Deluxe Casitas that can get all the family under one room, or the adult only Nayara Springs section of the resort that offers beautiful, intimate casitas with a more refined touch and plunge pool to have the ultimate romantic Arenal experience. A particularly impressive feature is their wine bar, with fine wines on offer by the glass, with a state of the art wine rotator and dispenser - an amazing space with great tapas to enjoy with the wine tasting. A really special resort, that really values impeccable service, great food, and luxury comfort - still with some natural Costa Rican authenticity.

Arenal Nayara was simply stunning. The rooms are spacious and very luxurious feeling, and felt private tucked in amongst the rainforest foliage. There are lots of great options for restaurants, and the seafood night at Altamira was exquisite; lots of fresh lobster and prawns. Indulge in some wine tasting and tapas in the Nostalgia bar, and the pool has a swim-up bar with incredible views to the Arenal Volcano.

The Arenal Nayara really has one of the most privileged hotel locations in the whole of Latin America - in full view of the spectacular Arenal volcano. I particularly enjoyed one evening taking a drink out on to the terrace of our lovely private casita and watching plumes of smoke and the occasional sprinkling of red hot lava bubbling up from the immense crater. The hotel really is as close as you can get! You can literally hear the volcano breathing. I was very lucky with the weather and it was bright blue sky throughout my stay however a top tip is not to pre book a tour in advance as the volcano can be shrouded by low lying cloud but to wait until you get there and as soon as the volcano is in full view to head out immediately!

At Arenal Nayara, guests have fantastic views of the mighty Arenal volcano from the bed and hot tub on the balcony. There are 20 secluded and elegant Javanese casitas in lush gardens. A small spa, pretty swimming pool and wet bar complete this exclusive little haven.
