The Winelands are a wonderful year-round destination and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in South Africa is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere. The best season visit is September to March when it is hot, sunny and dry. From April to August it cools down with some rain.

The Rhodes Cottage is a beautiful three bedroom cottage in the Cape Winelands. Commissioned by Cecil John Rhodes, Sir Herbert Baker designed 'a simple country retreat', it has recently been fully refreshed by leading Cape designer Dominic Touwen.
The Rhodes Cottage on Boschendal Estate offers visitors to the Cape Winelands the opportunity to stay in a slice of South African and British colonial history. Cecil John Rhodes commissioned Sir Herbert Baker to design the cottage in the late 1800s. Rhodes instructed Baker to create a country retreat of simple design which would incorporate the indigenous hardwoods of the area - this is immediately evident in the wooden ceilings and architectural features which define the interior.
The cottage has recently been renovated by leading Cape interior designer Dominic Touwen. The thatched roof and white-washed walls remain, and you would feel that Baker would have approved of the new interior with its strong references to the Arts and Crafts tradition, which alongside the Cape Dutch vernacular is a strong influence in architecture of this period throughout South Africa.
Guests staying at Boschendal can enjoy farm & history tours, trails for walking, running or mountain biking, trout fishing, swimming in pristine mountain water and of course fabulous picnics and wine tasting. Boschendal is a celebration of farm fresh ingredients brought to the plate to showcase the best of South Africa.
The cottage accommodates six people in three bedrooms with the option of a further four guests to stay in the garden annex.
Six guests are accommodated in the cottage making it the perfect size for a family to enjoy. For slightly larger groups, the garden annex can accommodate four more guests.
There are no specific facilities for young children, although nannies and baby sitters can be easily organized for a small fee.
A range of different dining experiences will leave guests at Boschendal spoiled for choice. Emphasis is on farm fresh and seasonal ingredients, always locally sourced and celebrating simple and natural flavors.
The majority of the estate is only available for the exclusive use of over-night guests. This is a beautiful area to explore using the mountain bikes, hiking and running trails. In the local area visitors will be spoiled for choice with the range of activities.
