Located in the mid-southwest region of the country at the foothills of the Atlas mountains, Marrakech is one of Morocco’s most well-known cities. It contains the country’s largest souq as well as the busiest square in Africa, filled with market stalls, acrobats and musicians to name a few of the extraordinary sights to be seen.
The city is split into two sections; the old fortress city, and the modern city built around it, known as Gueliz. Staying in a traditional Moroccan riad can be a wonderful, authentic experience. The word "riad" comes from the Arabic for garden because the building is built around an internal courtyard. As such, a riad provides a peaceful retreat from the bustling city of Marrakech.
