Average temperatures (Celsius) and rainfall (mm)
In Morocco, temperatures oscillate from mild to scorching, offering something for every traveller's taste, whether you’re a sun-seeker or yearning for culture. During spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), the country basks in delightful warmth and the climate is dry, making them both good times to visit Morocco at its most beautiful. You’ll find temperatures between 19°C (Casablanca) and 28°C (Atlas Mountains). Summers bring intense heat, particularly in the desert regions where it reaches over 40°C in July and August. Winters (December to February) offer cooler days and chilly nights, especially in the mountains but you’ll still find blue skies, sunshine, and temperatures in the 20s.
Seasonal Highlights in Morocco
While Morocco has four seasons, they don’t differ too greatly from each other. Temperatures are at their highest in summer and lowest in winter, there is very little rainfall all year round, but you might see some snow in the Atlas Mountains in the winter.
The best time to visit Morocco is typically during spring and autumn, when comfortably warm temperatures are ideal for outdoor adventures and sightseeing.
The festive season in December in Morocco is a wonderful time to visit for sunshine and clear skies during the daytime, and cooler evenings. January and February are the coldest months and can be rainy, however, there are fewer visitors at this time of year, and hotels offer lower prices making it still a great option.
Another consideration is travel over the Islamic observance of Ramadan, which typically falls in March/April, but the date of this sacred month changes each year ask your travel expert about it when deciding if it’s the best time to see Morocco for you.

A Seasonal Guide to Morocco
-
March, April, May
Spring is one of the best times to travel to Morocco. It brings mild temperatures and blooming landscapes, making it ideal for exploration and outdoor activities. Wander around the ancient medinas of Marrakech, where bustling souks and architectural marvels await. Go on a private tour of Yves Saint Laurent’s famous garden, taste street food or discover hidden Marrakech from the comfort of a motorbike sidecar. With long, sunny days you can take day trips to go hiking in the Atlas Mountains. We also love combining time in the city with slower days by the sea. Delve into the coastal charm of Essaouira, where spring’s temperate weather is made for leisurely beach strolls and meals on one of the many rooftop restaurants. Take in the stunning views over this blue-and-white city and trawl the markets for one-of-a-kind finds to take home.

June, July, August
The weather in Morocco in the summer months (well into the 40s) gets very hot, however Casablanca stays cooler, with temperatures around 24°C to 26°C. Discover all this famous port has to offer with a private tour of the city, which will include a visit to the Hassan II Mosque, an architectural marvel by the sea. Dive into the city's vibrant art scene at the Museum of Moroccan Judaism or the Villa des Arts. Spend the warm evenings strolling along the bustling Corniche, lined with cafes and beaches where you can soak up the sun and stop for a meal of fresh seafood.
Before the heat of the summer reaches its peak, a trip to Skoura in June will reward you with beautiful weather. An oasis, Skoura is surrounded by acres of palm groves, les palmaraie, dotted with kasbahs and small villages. Experience chauffeur-driven 4X4 excursions to the Dades or Draa valleys or the stunning Valley of the Roses - or take a quad bike, or motorbike, for adventure. Then relax in the sun by your hotel pool and have any knots kneaded out in the hammam.

September, October, November
Autumn is one of the best times to visit Morocco, when the intense heat of the summer has calmed, and the skies are still bright blue. Head to Fes to discover Morocco’s authentic historic sites and ancient traditions. Its car-free medina is beautifully unmodernised, and you’ll find weavers, dyers and many artisans working their crafts. Morocco in October brings temperatures in the 20s and 30s, making it a great option for the October half term, and as Fes is less bustling than Marrakech, it’s a great option for a family holiday. As is an adventure in the Agafay Desert, just 45 minutes from Marrakech, where the dry, hot weather sets the scene for action-packed outdoor itineraries, from quad-biking to walking with camels and eating under the stars, serenaded by local musicians and dancers.

December, January, February
While January and February can be cool in parts of Morocco, the Atlas Mountains remain tepid, with temperatures in the mid-10s, making it one of the best times to go to Morocco’s majestic southern mountain range, particularly if you want to trek. Crisp air, sunny days and snow-capped mountains in the distance make for an ideal setting. Routes vary in difficulty, from quiet paths around Imlil and the Ouigane Valley to a four-day expedition climbing Toubkal, which requires ice picks and experienced mountain guides. The Atlas Mountains in winter are suitable for families, as well as keen adventurers both of whom will enjoy the kind of activities that are suited to winter sun, such as outings to meet Berbers, horse riding, mountain biking, rafting and hot air balloon rides. In the higher altitudes, there is often snow in the winter, which even allows for skiing. Or you could just lie by the heated swimming pools and soak up some Vitamin D.

Best time to visit Morocco for…
Exploring Different Regions
The best time to travel to Morocco to explore different regions is in its spring and autumn months, specifically from March to May and September to November. During these seasons, temperatures range between 20°C and 30°C making it comfortable to explore the many diverse landscapes, from city to coast and mountain to desert.
Start in vibrant Marrakech or Fes, immersing yourself in bustling souks and historic medinas. Journey to the Atlas Mountains for breathtaking hikes and Berber villages, then head to the coastal town of Essaouira for seaside relaxation and surfing. Finally, venture into the Agafay Desert for camel treks and camping under starlit skies. For desert exploration, we advise going early in spring or late in autumn for cooler temperatures.
Outdoor Adventures
The best time to visit Morocco for outdoor activities varies depending on what kind of adventure you’re looking for. Along the Atlantic coast, particularly in cities like Essaouira, the months of March to September offer ideal conditions for surfing, with consistent waves and pleasant temperatures.
For sports such as hiking and trekking in the Atlas Mountains, the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months are best too. During this time, temperatures are not too hot, and the landscapes are in full bloom, which together create the perfect setting for exploration.
Memorable adventures like dinner under the stars in the desert or hot air ballooning over Marrakech are best during the cooler months of autumn and winter (November to February), which, along with lower temperatures, come with fewer tourists, allowing for a more intimate and authentic experience among Morocco's natural wonders.

Typically, Spain and Portugal are at their best in the summer months, from June to August, when you get the most guaranteed sunshine. However, the summer is very hot in Morocco, so you’d be best going to the three countries together in May or June and September when you should still have beautiful weather in the low to mid-20s in Portugal and Spain, and hotter temperatures in parts of Morocco.
