The main season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot.
Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.
To start planning your holiday to Laikipia Wilderness
Description
Laikipia Wilderness is an exclusive owner-run bush camp in an area of outstandingly beautiful, true Kenyan wilderness. Just ten guests stay in five safari tents, enjoying dramatic views over this rich wildlife area toward Mt Kenya.
Steve and Annabelle Carey have spent 20 years running safaris across Africa. Steve, a professional Zimbabwean walking guide, left his home country in 2003 when tourism in the country collapsed under hyper-inflation. They quickly fell in love with Laikipia for the incredible diversity of animals, the dramatic all-African landscapes and the welcoming and enthusiastic people.
At Laikipia Wilderness every day is an adventure, full of memorable experiences. The programme for each visitor's safari is planned around their interest: game drives, walking safaris, tracking, photography, birding and all manner of specific interests.
With three children of their own, Steve and Annabelle have created an experience here that is equally rewarding for couples and families alike.
At the heart of the camp is a tented mess building, home to the dining room, bar, and sitting room. A deck stretches out in front and is the place to sit around the open camp fire in the evenings.
Each of the five tents is built on a platform with a private veranda, all are en-suite with hot and cold running water and hot showers open to the sun and stars. Some tents are close together, specifically sited as such for families.
This area of Laikipia is home to great numbers of elephants, giraffe and the endangered Grevy's zebra, as well as a wide variety of predators - particularly impressive wild dog sightings - and an extraordinary diversity of birds and other mammals, both large and small.
