The Grand Bazaar and Kashgar Old Town

Visit Kashgar's Grand Bazaar (opens everyday), which is liveliest on Sundays where traders and farmers from the surrounding countryside gather to trade anything from camels to cardamom! If you have the opportunity, also visit the Sunday Livestock Market (Sundays only). Try for the Sunday market in Hotan or Kuqa if you have missed the one in Kashgar.
Explore what remains of the labyrinth of narrow streets of Kashgar Old Town. While development has brought changes, many local craftsmen, poets or confectioners still ply their trades within Old Kashgar and dive deep into the lifestyles of the locals. Enjoy a traditional Uyghur lunch at a local home within the Old Town before visiting Id Kah Mosque, China's largest mosque as well as Apak Hoja Mausoleum, the holiest Muslim site in Kashgar.
