Shanghai and eastern China’s subtropical climate brings with it four distinct seasons. The weather is generally mild and temperate, with a great deal of rainfall even in the drier months of the year. The frequent monsoon showers and scorching temperatures of June, July and August can make it uncomfortably humid, with the mercury regularly rising over 35°C. Winter is overcast and chilly, although snow seldom falls in this eastern region of China. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Shanghai and eastern China, with pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists.

A former residence of iconic Chinese painter Shen Zhou, Tsingpu Suzhou Retreat is re-purposed by famous designer Liang Jian Guo to bring out the design elements of Suzhou classic gardens alive. Located in the idyllic Shantang Street at Wu Zhong District, this is an ideal base to explore the historic water town of Suzhou.

Each room offers a view of the garden, fitted with a desk, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. Tsingpu Suzhou Retreat's in-house restaurant offers Asian cuisine, as well as vegetarian and halal meals.

Tsingpu Suzhou Retreat offers a variety of cultural activities, including handicraft-making and festival performances incorporating traditional Chinese instruments.

    Take a trip to Suzhou and visit the Humble Administrator's Garden and Pan Gate. Explore the huge collection of cultural relics in Suzhou Museum and learn about the silk history at Suzhou No. 1 Silk Factory.

  • Suzhou In-Depth: Second Time's a Charm

    Today, we visit two more of Suzhou's best gardens: the Master of the Nets and the Lingering Gardens. We then visit the Yunyan Pagoda and Penjing Garden (a bonsai garden) at the Tiger Hill and conclude with a cruise at Suzhou Ancient Grand Canal.

  • Tongli Water Town with Cruise

    Today, you will make a visit to the Tongli Ancient Town, stopping at Tuisi Garden, Jianyin Hall and ancient bridges. Afterwards, enjoy a cruise along the water town to take in its beauty.

  • Visit to Zhujiajiao and Zhouzhuang

    Enjoy a visit to the traditional water villages of Shanghai. Head to Zhujiajiao and Zhouzhuang where you will see a former trading village that rose to glory as a result of the Grand Canal system which exported China’s goods overseas.

    Soak in the romantic ambience from Wuzhen's ancient docks, waterside pavilions and corridors from this beautifully preserved water town dating back to the late Qing dynasty period.

  • Zhouzhuang Water Town

    Head to Zhouzhuang and visit the 900-year-old Taoist Chengxu Temple, as well as the famous Twin Bridges.
