Shanghai and eastern China’s subtropical climate brings with it four distinct seasons. The weather is generally mild and temperate, with a great deal of rainfall even in the drier months of the year. The frequent monsoon showers and scorching temperatures of June, July and August can make it uncomfortably humid, with the mercury regularly rising over 35°C. Winter is overcast and chilly, although snow seldom falls in this eastern region of China. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Shanghai and eastern China, with pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists.

Alila Anji's charming design incorporates modern understated luxury into its traditional Chinese roofed-village exteriors, blending into its tranquil surroundings of hillside lake, pristine bamboo groves, tea plantations and spring blossoms of plum trees.

Each of the 72 rooms and villas occupies a spacious living environment starting from 69 square metres with stylish soft furnishings including handwoven textiles, silk pillows, ceramics and antique pieces to create a stylish, relaxing environment. Room amenities include WiFi, 42-inches LCD TV, daybed, minibar, in-room safe, as well as oversized bathrooms with built-in double vanities.

Exquisite traditional Chinese dining is served at Hidden Dragon with seasonal ingredients and local produces, while savouring the breathtaking lake views from the restaurant. For special occasions, there are also five private dining rooms with maximum capacity of 12 guests.

Alternatively, an al fresco restaurant called Lake View is available between 7am and 10pm, serving wide selection of Asian and Western dishes such as breads, dim sum, noodles, meat and seafood.

Housing six treatment rooms, six reflexology rooms and a spa boutique, the Spa Alila offers signature treatments incorporating Traditional Chinese Medicine-inspired treatments. Signature treatments include the Avocado and Coconut Smoothie, as well as Therapeutic Balinese Massage.

    Stroll through the bamboo park and visit the panda exhibition hall.

    During the fall season, Anji bustles with plenty of chestnut harvests. You will spend some time on one of the surrounding farms for a chestnut-picking activity with a farmer.

  • Anji Grand National Bamboo Forest

    Today, enjoy hiking through the famous bamboo forest of Anji, which also serves as the filming site of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

  • Anji White Tea Picking

    Visit a nearby tea plantation and learn the process of plucking, preparing and packing white tea.

  • Bamboo Shoot Harvesting

    Famous for its high-quality bamboos, Anji is an excellent place to harvest bamboo shoots. Accompanied by a local farmer with a hoe, head out into the bamboo forest to uncover this renowned winter delicacy.

  • Hangxuan Ancient Path & Futuo Zen Temple

    Start at the Futuo Zen Temple, where you will ascend Xiao'en Pagoda for serene view of the surrounding areas and enjoy a vegetarian meal with the practicing monks. Hike through the meditative bamboo forest to Dusong and stroll Dusong's Hangxuan Path.

  • Hidden Dragon Waterfall & Jiangnan Tianchi

    Today, you will visit the Hidden Dragon Waterfall Scenic Area: The Fairy Bridge, The Long Dragon Flying Waterfall, The Rainbow Above the Dragon Gate. Afterwards, continue to Jiangnan Tianchi Scenic Area.

  • Lingfeng Temple & Saoshe Cultural Village

    Tour the ancient Buddhist temple of Lingfeng and gain insights into the local customs at Saoshe, a traditional village which produces and processes Anji's famous white tea and bamboo.

  • Moganshan Hiking

    Hike through the Jianggong Ancient Path, enjoy a cup of coffee at 395 Laoshulin Outdoor Station, then continue from Zhonghua Hill to Luhuadang before descending from the scenic route of Moganshan-Jianchi Feipu.

  • North Zhejiang Grand Canyon

    Spend a day in North Zhejiang Grand Canyon through the mountains, bamboo forest, waterfalls and streams. At the peak, you will visit a Buddhist and Guanyin temples. Descend with an overhead cable cars to appreciate the surrounding scenery.

  • Shenxi Canyon Rafting

    Get into the thrill of rafting downstream through the heart of Shenxi Canyon.
