Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The best time of year to visit is from October to April, when temperatures are hot and the sea warm. Do bear in mind that rainfall in this part of Brazil is spread quite evenly throughout the year, but the sunshine is never far away. If travelling over Christmas/New Year or over Carnival, be sure to book well in advance as space is very tight over these periods.

Days 1-4: Rio de Janeiro
Arrive in Rio de Janeiro, the beating heart of Brazil, where we recommend spending a few days to enjoy all that the vibrant city has to offer. Explore the city’s wonders and beaches by day and go out to enjoy the city’s wonderful culinary and music scene by night. We recommend a visit to the botanical gardens and the iconic sites of Sugar Loaf Mountain and Rio de Janeiro.
Accommodation: Miramar by Windsor (3 nights)
-
Days 4-7: Paraty
From Rio, travel by private car along Brazil’s Emerald Coast to Paraty, whose historic centre boasts beautifully preserved Portuguese colonial architecture and winding cobbled streets. Stay three nights at the Pousada do Ouro, a delightful and superbly located guesthouse, from where you can enjoy an easygoing life at some of Paraty’s bars and restaurants, or venture further afield to one of the bay’s many islands which boast idyllic beaches.
Accommodation: Pousada do Ouro (3 nights)
-
Days 7-11: Paraty
Finish with four nights of relaxation at Pousada Picinguaba, an intimate hideaway with a laid-back ambience which is completely immersed in nature. The pousada is backed by rainforest-cloaked peaks, and from its position in the hills you can enjoy views down to the calm and sheltered cove below. Although not a traditional beach destination, this is the perfect place to unwind, with wild and rugged beaches a short hop across the water by paddleboard, kayak or boat. Enjoy the plentiful activities on offer here from hiking to yoga, boat cruises and water activities, or simply unwind by the pool and admire the landscapes, tucking into hearty, home-cooked meals during your downtime.
