Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.

The hotel has a real home from home feel, and the unfaltering and personable service guests receive here has seen it dubbed the best place to stay in Deer Valley. Indeed, it's a firm favourite amongst locals and prides itself on many guests returning again and again. Forbes rate it as a Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond hotel - the only one in Utah. The ski concierges will help you with all your equipment, and at the end of the day, you'll find hot chocolate in the boot room.

Its position on the slopes mean you can ski right from the ski room, and together with its luxurious rooms and delicious cuisine, it's hard to beat. There's an excellent range of dining options, from gourmet to simple in-suite meals, with the Gliterand Restaurant serving outstanding food. The resorts of Canyons and Park City are just minutes away and accessible by shuttle. There are ski trails for all abilities but beginners to intermediates will feel at home at Deer valley with immaculately groomed pistes amongst the trees. Expert skiers can head for the mogul runs used for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games.

Grace Holton (Staff)

This Norwegian style hotel has a warm and cosy feel and is reaped in character and history as the hotel is named after the Olympic skier whose medals are displayed in the hotel.

This ski in/out hotel is home to the only 5* spa in Utah! There are 58 different room types so there really is something to suit everyone, and it works well for families. The suites with fireplaces are my favourite, and all the suites have hot tubs on the balconys. Rooms are very large and spacious, with all the facilities on site that you need, from a ski hire shop, a great outdoor pool and a brand-new coffee shop called First tracks so you dont have to waste any time getting on the slopes!

Charlotte Austin (Staff)

This is perfect for guests used to skiing in the Alps, as it is so European and has a great Alpine feel to it - an ideal introduction to your first American ski holiday! The staff here are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. There's always water in the lobby waiting for you and great hot chocolate and cookies too. The breakfasts are the perfect start to the day and with such amazing views of the slopes and chairlifts from breakfast you can time your first run really well.
