Anna Bleasdale (Staff)

Arriving at the lodge I was surprised, I expected it to be along a long winding private road in some secret location but instead it was just off a little local road frequented by cows trundling along from the high country to the low for the winter while we were there. I was immediately concerned about road noise, I shouldn't have been, I think I heard one car in the whole time I was here. The lodge is set in beautiful pine forest and is small enough to be able to walk between all the main buildings within a minute or two.  Down below, the river rushes past, the perfect place for a little fishing during my stay.  September is a great time for snagging a salmon, of which I was thrilled to catch three of during my short visit, all catch and release of course. Stepping in to the lodge is like stepping in to a warm blanket of cosiness and love. The staff are just adorable, so keen to ensure you have the best stay whilst not being over the top, it's a fine line and it was spot on. Taylor River Lodge is top notch, from the welcome, the surroundings and facilities (I was stunned to see a beautiful bath house complete with small pool and jacuzzi spilling out on to a deck) through to the divine food.  Oh they feed you well here, much of the ingredients are locally sourced and enormously tasty. There's warming fire pits in nooks and crannies all over the property, perfect for evening huddles with s'mores in the summer months while listening to the river below. During the day, its all about the outdoors. Whether you're fishing in the well stocked pond or the river you're bound to catch a few with the amazing guides here.  Perhaps head to the climbing wall for practice before attempting the impressive crag across the stream, or maybe a hike or mountain bike trip in the incredible Rockies scenery.  You can be as busy or lazy as you like here and it's easy to be lazy in such relaxing surroundings.  You really do feel like you're in a bubble here, far from the real world and beautifully looked after.  Whether you come as a couple or a family, you will have the warmest of welcomes and will be sad to leave.  It's not a typical ranch as you may find in Colorado, however, it's small stature and intimate feel make for a very special experience, well worth making the effort for.
