Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.
Insider's View
To start planning your holiday to Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole
Description
Located in Wyoming's spectacular Teton Mountains, the Four Seasons Jackson Hole has ski in/ski out access. This luxury 157 room hotel is great for couples and families, with exceptional facilities for children.
For a wild west experience, dramatic scenery and great skiing, Jackson Hole provides it all. The Four Seasons Jackson Hole captures the spirit and essence of the American West and has a mountain hideaway feel, with natural wood and stone finishes. The rooms are both spacious and cosy, many with superb mountain or valley views, balconies and fireplaces, using comfortable interiors, fluffy duvets and cosy soft towels.
The full-service alpine spa has 16 treatments rooms and offers a comprehensive range of massages and beauty treatments to promote relaxation, invigoration and renewal. Guests can enjoy the stunning views of the Tetons from the 23m heated outdoor pool and whirlpools. During the winter months, heated towels, bathrobes and hot chocolate are offered to the brave swimmers!
There is a full ski rental service in-house which will fit you the right boots for your days on the mountain with the convenience of not leaving the hotel. The best bit is, if you need to swap them you can really easily. The expert ski concierge will then take your skis outside ready and waiting for you every morning so you don't need to lift a finger.
The Westbank Grill at the Four Seasons is located right on the slopes offering fantastic views and has a large stone fireplace which is perfect to huddle around. The open kitchen prepares cuisine from the American West and meals here are fairly meat-orientated but really amazing. The Peak restaurant is a lively alternative for lunch, après ski and dinner, offering a sophisticated twist on the traditional American Steakhouse. A great little bar/diner The Handle Bar downstairs in the Four Seasons opened its doors a couple of years ago and has proven very popular. Cutely named handle bar after all of the cycling done in the summer and also after the great moustache. It was set up by restaurant management group Michael Mina, a partnership between Mina, an American 'celebrity chef' and restaurateur, and tennis star Andre Agassi. Michael Mina has brought across his Maitake Mushrooms from RN74 restaurant in San Francisco - definitely worth a try! This is another great place to stop for lunch as there are ideal views across the slopes as well as an open front so you can choose whether to sit inside or out.
Accommodation
The Four Seasons Jackson Hole features 157 rooms, suites and resort residences (2-5 bedrooms). The rooms are both spacious and inviting, many with superb mountain or valley views, balconies and fireplaces, using comfortable interiors, fluffy duvets and cosy soft towels. Most of the rooms have just recently had a refurbishment on their interiors.
The residences are decorated just like a home away from home and are perfect for families as they offer a little more space and also offer a full kitchen and lounge.
Some rooms look right onto the mountain and others have views across the valley.
Childcare
Children are welcome at the Four Seasons Jackson Hole and babysitting is available on request. There is a kids play room featuring a pool table, foosball, computer games, Xbox 360 video games and televisions. A special selection of wildlife and natural history DVDs are also on offer. Kids Ranch is run by Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (not part of the hotel) but it is located right opposite the hotel which provides specialist childcare for children 6-36months, and ski lessons for children 3yrs+.
Facilities
Facilities at the Four Seasons Jackson Hole include a spa, fitness centre, outdoor heated pool and hot tubs, two restaurants, a lounge, in-room dining (children’s menus available for in- room dining). The hotel also provides an excellent Ski Concierge, ski rentals (adult), ski tuning and boot fitting.
The Handle Bar was opened a few seasons ago now but is going from strength to strength and is very popular for lunches as it is located on the side of the piste which is an ideal viewing spot. The Westbank Grill is the slightly more 'fine-dining' restaurant upstairs which boasts a menu full of excellent local meats and fish. At lunch this is a buffet style restaurant but is a cosy retreat for dinners.
Spa | Escape to a spa resort inspired by the pristine beauty of the mountain wilderness. Nationally recognized among the top 100 spa resorts in the US by Condé Nast’s 2012 reader poll, the full-service alpine Spa provides a comprehensive range of massages and treatments to promote relaxation, invigoration and renewal. The luxurious 11,685 sq ft spa facility offers 16 treatment rooms, including two private spa suites – each with a Swiss shower, fireplace and deep soaking tub. The treatment area also features separate men’s and women’s tranquility lounges with fireplaces. Energy bars, tea and a variety of other amenities are available at this lavish Jackson Hole spa. |

In winter snow piles up carpeting the valley and offering an abundance of seasonal activities. Jackson Hole averages 1,016cm of snow a year, the entire valley turns white after mid-November and it can stretch past early April. With over 1,000 hectares of skiing and snowboarding terrain, and the Teton Village alpine community of shops, restaurants, bars and recreational activities, Jackson hole enjoys some of the best skiing anywhere.
Throughout the valley, there is ample opportunity for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing (to track winter wildlife) and even half-to-full-day dog-sledding.
You can take a fantastic snowmobile ride around Yellowstone Park to try and spot some wildlife as well as a snowmobile ride around the moose farm nearby.
Heli-skiing | The ultimate skiing adventure you can ski any of five surrounding mountain ranges for a day of unforgettable skiing or snowboarding on fresh, untracked snow. Skiers can expect a full day of skiing at 12,000 to 15,000 vertical feet (3,658 to 4,572 metres). |
Dog-sledding | Dog sled tours offer an unforgettable outdoor adventure in pristine scenery. Learn how to drive your own team and get a sense for this unique winter pastime. Along the way, you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of this significant ecosystem, and have the opportunity to view elk, bison, bears, wolves, mountain lions, bighorn sheep, bald eagles, owls and other rare birds. Guests travel in a Mercedes Benz equipped with spotting scopes, binoculars and gourmet wraps prepared by the Resort’s chefs. |

The Four Seasons is moments from the lifts and beginner slopes. I particularly loved the ambiance of the property when you enter and the cosy lounge area with sofas, open fire and board games which families can enjoy together. The Handle Bar is a great spot for lunch or an aprs ski drink in the sun, with fire pits and views of the Rendezvous Mountain and beginner slopes. The impressive Base Camp ski concierge service is fantastic, your pre-warmed boots and skis will be ready and waiting for you when you are ready to hit the slopes, they also have an extensive rental shop with the best equipment choices. The Four Seasons renowned Spa is wonderful, with outdoor pool and hot tubs its the best spot to unwind after a day on the mountain.
