Montana has an extreme continental climate with very cold winters and warm summers. Summer is the best season to visit for hiking, fishing, camping, and wildlife watching. It will be warm during the day and cool at night. Autumn brings spectacularly clear days; cool, clear nights; and calm winds up until late October. Winter is a glorious season here, though it can be very cold. Spring in likely to be chilly with snow or rain.
Paws Up operates year long in its Timber Homes, with the tented camps open from mid-May to mid-October.

Set in 37,000 acres of Montanas wilderness the resort consists of luxury rustic homes thoughtfully dotted amongst pine forest as well as along with ultimate glamping tents pitched along the riverfront. We stayed in the largest of the properties, a three bedroom wilderness estate home, greeted upon entry with a hamper of goodies, a roaring fire and a perfectly formed Christmas tree along with all the trimmings so that we could decorate our own tree. These little details so carefully thought out by the friendly staff really make the difference and create a sense of feel of a home away from home. Due to remote nature of these homes it is worth knowing that you have to drive from your residence to the main village and activities outpost, although all homes do come with their own vehicle. It is a property that suits guests looking for a peaceful, private experience. In the summer the tented camps open, these again are situated away from the main resort hub, so you benefit from the tranquility waking up next to the river and the sense of being in the "backcountry". The tents vary in size from a 1 bedroom all the way to 4 bedrooms, however they are separated by tented partition walls, so of course, they are not soundproof. The big selling point of this property is that the onsite activities are expansive and it works really well for large families or multi-generational groups. It is also a fantastic combination with visiting Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.

Without quite knowing what to expect we turned up to Paws Up Resort and were immediately surprised by the size of it. Each cabin is offered a car to get around easily, although some guests choose to cycle or walk around the site. A transfer system is also in place for anyone who prefers not to drive.
A very different take on the ranch experience, the resort has a very independent feel within an activity haven. It's charm becomes apparent the longer you stay and with so much on offer you could stay quite a while! The nature of the surrounds make it perfect for those adventurous travellers who wouldn't mind rappelling a 164ft cliff face, or an adrenaline field ATV ride. To those who are after good hiking country, fly fishing, or a relaxing treatment in the spa area.
For families the lodges are a perfect fit, western in style but providing the luxurious comforts and mod cons that will keep everyone happy. Most lodges come with a hot tub and the highest grade will provide a private escape as these are the furthest from the 'village' - the main reception and restaurant area within the resort.
The service we received was exceptional during our stay with everyone very happy to help and directing us on the best things to do to make the most of our time.
This resort is perfect for those preferring a flexible stay and wanting to touch on the western ranch experience. As you are paying for things as you go it allows you to decide what to do and if you want a day off you don't feel guilty. It is worth noting that the price can tot up, so checking the activity prices before is a must.
