Summer or winter, rain or shine, there's always great stuff going on in New York, so when you're planning a trip, there's no real "best" or "worst" time to go. Weather wise fall and spring are the best times in New York. From April to June and September to November, temperatures are mild and pleasant, and the light is beautiful. Summers can be hot and humid while winter snowfalls are not uncommon.

September to December is conference season in New York, and we would advise booking early for travel during this period.

The Mandarin Oriental is one of New York’s most striking and sophisticated hotels with breathtaking views over Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, yet is also perfect for families wanting to be at the very heart of Manhattan.

Ideally located on top of the Time Warner Center at the southwestern tip of Central Park near some of the city’s finest stores and restaurants, the Mandarin Oriental Central Park is a superb synthesis of opulent New York style and civilised Asian service.

There are 289 stylishly appointed rooms and suites that boast unrivalled views over either Central Park or the Hudson River, all fitted out with elegant décor and state of the art amenities. Families are particularly well catered to with connecting room options, welcome gifts for children and free games consoles, while babysitting is easily arranged.

The hotel’s magnificent spa, decorated with bamboo, stone and gold leaf, is an oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation high above New York City that will soothe away the grime and noise of the streets below, leaving you revitalized for them with an enhanced sense of wellbeing. Rare among New York hotels, there is also a 75-foot indoor lap swimming pool with views over the Hudson River.

Dining here is also superb, and Asiate is one of New York’s hottest restaurants serving up classic French cuisine with contemporary Asian influences, while the Lobby Lounge situated 280 feet above Central Park with glorious views of the Upper East Side, is the perfect spot for afternoon tea or a light snack. The MO Bar is a stylish spot for evening cocktails before or after going out.

New York is an exhilarating and invigorating city, and the concierge service will be only too happy to help you get the most out of your stay, whether you’d like to see a Broadway show, check out the latest downtown restaurant opening or visit Manhattan’s iconic sights.

The Mandarin Oriental has long been considered the best address in the city for the signature service, style and views over Central Park that stretch all the way up to the Jacque Onassis Reservoir and out west to the mighty Hudson River. High in the sky, Manhattan seemingly spreads out around the hotel offering a sense of being in the Big Apple as soon as you throw back the curtains in the morning. The Mandarin Oriental suits travellers wanting to a classic New York location, right in the hubbub of the city. Its a treat for a first-time visitor travelling in style or for those that appreciate the conveniences of Columbus Circle. It is a great summer spot with its access to leafy Central Park but the hotel comes into its own when the mercury drops. In winter, New York is chilly, it is not a walking city (and good luck getting a taxi) and the hotels 3rd floor exits directly into the Ty Warner shopping centre. The shops as they are referred to offer something for every fashionista from H&M to Hugo Boss, as well as housing some of the citys most premier restaurants, including Thomas Kellers Per Se and Bouchon. Theres also a huge, handy Whole Foods store in the basement. Marea is also a stones throw away, another of New Yorks most talked about dining hot spots. Within the hotel, Asiate Restaurant is highly acclaimed, sweeping views over Central Park mean there isnt another spot in the city like it, so even if you cant stay, book a reservation here well ahead of time (and request a window table). Combine that with Mandarins incredible spa - never mind if theres a snow-storm to contend with!

Style wise, it is classic Mandarin Oriental, faultlessly comfortable rooms with every mod-con but the neutral colour palate can make it feel a little dated for such a cutting edge city. The hotels brand also lends itself to a large proportion of corporate travellers, with the communal spaces and Lobby Lounge attracting plenty of suited-and-booted types - along with leisure travellers. Having said this, the hotel is a top pick for families in the holidays due to the location and connecting room options, the signature Mandarin service will ensure family suites and rooms are one-hundred percent guaranteed connecting or just across the corridor if youd rather teenagers were a little further away!
