1 Hotel Central Park is a relatively new addition, and a very welcome one, to the array of top hotels in New York City. The 1 Hotel ethos is to offer boutique luxury with an emphasis on environmental responsibility, combined with a funky design twist.
Their Manhattan hotel is a fashionable yet laid-back and welcoming option, well located just a block away from Central Park and from 5th Avenue.
The design of the rooms and the public spaces is intriguing - artists have used up-cycled materials to create stunning prices of art and quirky architectural touches throughout the property. There are plenty of indoor plants and reclaimed woods throughout the building, as well as the 'living walls' outside the hotel, which add a splash of natural green to the hotel's iconic Manhattan location.
All of the design elements of the hotel reinforce the owners' environmental credentials. Bedside notepads are replaced by chalkboards, the complimentary newspapers are provided on tablets and, instead of slippers, slipper socks are provided for guests to use and keep.
There is no compromise, however, on comfort and luxury, and the standard of service is as high or higher than you would find at any of the city's more conventional five star hotels.
