Wat Rong Khun
Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand, Thailand
Wat Rong Khun, or rather the White Temple as it is better known as amongst foreigners, is located between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and is a rather spectacular temple, very different from the many others in the area.
Take time out of your trip through Thailand to come and marvel at this heavenly yet eccentric temple. Covered in mirrored tiles, from the outside the White Temple sparkles and shines as if placed there by a god. Inside be amazed by the modern references, superheroes, cartoons and movie characters to name a few. Each of the temple’s messages refers to the key philosophies of Buddhism.
This temple really is one of a kind, built in 1997 by national artist Chlermchai Kositpipat. Having seen over 5 million visitors since its construction, there is a reason as to its popularity. The grounds are also beautifully looked after so take some time to appreciate them in all their glory.
