The Legend Chiang Rai is a delightful resort just a few minutes by car from the city centre. But it is very simple, don't expect super luxury, rooms are basic with comfortable beds and limited furnishings so they have all that is needed but not the extra stuff to make your stay just that bit more special. I would stay here for a stopover on the way to Laos perhaps or if you are on a lower budget it is a good option for a base from which to explore Chiang Rai. Its riverside location and panoramic views of the surrounding hills are a joy, there is also a big pool and the beer garden is a fun place to hang out in the evening.
Floating Market at Khlong Lat Mayom
Only open at weekends, Khlong Lat Mayom is one of Bangkok's best floating markets, and it is only a short journey from the city centre. This is one of the prettiest floating markets, and a great place to try some mouth-watering local Thai delicacies.
Wat Rong Khun
Wat Rong Khun, or rather the White Temple as it is better known as amongst foreigners, is located between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and is a rather spectacular temple, very different from the many others in the area.
