Itinerary

Spend a week exploring the beautiful cities and countryside of Portugal, travelling from bustling Lisbon in the south to colourful Porto in the north, and get to know the fascinating history and unique culture of this vibrant country.

  1. Fly to Lisbon

  2. Days 1-3: Lisbon, Portugal

Begin your journey in Lisbon, Portugal’s captivating capital city. This is one of western Europe’s oldest cities and its variety of rulers has left its mark on Lisbon’s architecture; Moorish influences are found in the traditional Alfama neighbourhood, while elegant colonial buildings dominate Belém’s streets. Explore the city with your private guide, soaking up the bustling atmosphere of the individual neighbourhoods, each of which boasts a truly unique character.

Spend a day outside of the city in nearby Sintra, an enchanting town home to a fairytale landscape of stunning palaces and magnificent manor houses. Your private guide will explain the history behind this charming town and UNESCO World Heritage Site as you admire its spectacular architecture and lush gardens.

Accommodation: Hotel do Chiado (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-5: Evora, Alentejo

Your next stop will be in Portugal’s largest region, Alentejo. This is the authentic, rural side of Portugal, where medieval villages are interspersed among the vineyards and cork plantations. This unique region is renowned for its culinary scene, which transports visitors back in time with traditional dishes and local flavours.

Spend two nights in Alentejo’s capital, Evora, a striking medieval town and one of the best preserved in Portugal. Wander through Evora’s winding streets and cobbled lanes with your private guide, visiting the impressive cathedral and the ancient Roman temple, once part of the town’s Roman Forum, before leaving the countryside behind for Portugal’s second city.

Accommodation: M'ar de Ar Aqueduto (2 nights)

  4. Days 5-7: Porto, Portugal

On your journey north, stop to discover ancient Obidos, a beautiful medieval walled town with a spectacular historic centre. Whitewashed houses are enhanced with bright pops of colour and the cobbled streets are home to a wealth of shops offering locally-produced chocolate and Ginjinha, or cherry liqueur.

The final stop of your trip will be Porto, built across the beautiful Douro river. This colourful city is the birthplace of port wine and still boasts a number of port houses lining the banks of the river alongside its superb gastronomy scene.

Your private guide will lead your through Porto’s vibrant streets, where colourful houses and bright blue azujelo tiles enhance the lively atmosphere of the city. Explore the traditional Ribeira neighbourhood before visiting the majestic Church of Sao Francisco, dubbed ‘the cave of gold’ because of its dazzling gold leaf decorations. Finally, make your way to the ancient cathedral and take in the spectacular views across the multicoloured rooftops of Porto.

    Accommodation: Intercontinental Porto (2 nights)

  5. Fly home from Porto
