This epic off-the-beaten-track family adventure set deep within the Arctic Circle is simply packed with wholesome wilderness experiences certain to capture the imagination of your teen in our luxury teepee hideaway. Add to this exhilarating snowmobile safaris through frosty pine forests, learning the art of husky dog mushing and putting your newly-acquired Arctic survival skills to good use and you can begin to imagine this magical journey through Finnish Lapland.

  1. Days 1-3: Finnish Lapland

Start by flying to the Arctic Circle and the Wilderness Hotel Inari where you will set out by sleigh to try and spot the Northern Lights, the unobstructed skies making this the perfect spot for Aurora viewing. Dinner tonight will be by campfire as you prepare for the adventure ahead.

The traditional sport of Finland is cross-country skiing which, as well as being heaps of fun, is a fantastic way to explore the majestic frozen lakes, rolling forests and high fells of Lapland. There are outdoors activities aplenty in this region and these can all be tailored to your individual preferences and pace. Snowshoeing should also be a must-try, whether by the short grey-light hours during the winter months or as part of a Northern Lights hunting trek.

Accommodation: Wilderness Hotel Inari (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Finnish Lapland

The most thrilling and authentic way to reach your teepee hideaway just has to be by husky-pulled sleigh, traversing the mesmerising white-blanket landscape at speed with the dogs panting up ahead of you. An incredible GoPro moment if ever we heard one! Pick up useful tips from the husky mushers before taking the reins yourself and leading your team through the surrounding expanse of snow-clad forest and frozen lakes to your wilderness home for the coming nights. This is where survival skills come into play and you learn how to break through the thick ice in search of fish and fresh water before chopping wood for the camp fire by which your chef prepares the freshly-caught ingredients for tonight’s well-earned meal.

Your adventure continues with an exhilarating snowmobile safari where, en-route, you can choose to visit a local reindeer herder. Get up close with the animals and learn traditional reindeer husbandry and Sami handicraft for an experience you will recount for a long time to come.

Accommodation: Teepee Wilderness Camp (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-6: Finnish Lapland

To round off your trip, spend one more night at Wilderness Hotel Inari before starting your journey home.
