Pousada Zé Maria, located in the ecologic sanctuary of Fernando de Noronha, is a perfect example that comfort provided by technology can be combined with environmental preservation. Situated right next to the unique Pico Hill, the Island’s famous landmark, the inn has been designed so as to preserve the natural resources at their most. Its architectural design respects the primitive vegetation: no trees have been removed; the swimming-pool in levels follows the original terrain, and the bungalows on stilts avoid interfering on watercourses when it rains.

A total of 21 courts, among six conventional apartments, 12 bungalows with a balcony with hammock and a gorgeous view to the ocean, and three special bungalows with whirlpool and balconies with a view both to the ocean and the gorgeous Pico Hill. The decor is typical and rustic, but all courts are provided with telephone, frigobar, air conditioning, thermal and acoustic insulation, and solar-heated and boiler-heated combined showers.

The garden, with more than 800 fruit trees and ornamental trees, is provided with hammocks that swing along the sea breeze and murmur. By the multiple-level, infinite swimming-pool, under a huge cashew-tree, stays the bar, where one can have appetizers and caipirinhas prepared with fruits that are grown within the inn premises. Pousada Zé Maria also has steam sauna, a fitness center, boats for fishing and riding, horse-back riding, and trekking with specialized guides.

The restaurant, decorated with rustic furniture and handicrafts, leads to an ample lounge with a terrace where the guest can select from a hydroponic garden the vegetable he wants to eat. The local dishes, spiced by Zé Maria himself, keep their regional simplicity and are especially created by the consecrated chef Celso Freire (three stars in the Brazilian guide, Guia 4 Rodas). The varied menu brings the freshness and the mildness that are appropriate to the tropical climate, offering a true colorful and healthy banquet. The sushi bar completes the Zen atmosphere, with Japanese delicatessen being prepared before the guests’ eyes.
