La Ferme de Georges is a unique property which can be found in the tiny village of Atins, providing easy access to the jaw-dropping scenery of Lençóis Maranhenses Park, a series of sand dunes and freshwater lagoons which disappear after the hot summer and refill annually with the winter rains.
Days here will be spent exploring the nearby park on foot, horseback or by 4x4, or alternatively enjoying watersports or fishing on the lagoons. The journey to reach La Ferme de George is an experience in itself, so relax and enjoy the scenery as you are transferred along the road to Barreirinhas, followed by a boat journey downriver to Atins where you will find the property.
The property itself is surrounded by farmland and the stunning national park, sandwiched in between the sea and the Preguiça River. Its natural surroundings and isolated location have encouraged the owners to grow much of their own produce which is served in the restaurant with every meal. The hotel chef takes great pride in his organic produce and family-style dining experience and dining here is like enjoying a meal with friends.
The hotel consists of just seven individual chalets which are each uniquely decorated and, although simple, ensure a comfortable stay. All have access to a shared outdoor seating area and plenty of space in which to relax, whilst others benefit from their own roof terrace to enjoy gorgeous sunset views over the ocean.
There are just seven individual chalets at La Ferme de Georges, each unique in its styling and features. All are simple yet comfortable and showcase dark woods, white walls and neutral decor. Chalets range from 30sqm up to 150sqm and all accommodate up to four guests, with the park chalet accommodating up to five. The Tree Chalet also has a private bar and a roof terrace with spectacular sunset views, as well as separate bathrooms. WiFi is available in the main communal areas of the property only.
Around 80% of the ingredients that are served in the restaurant at La Ferme de Georges are grown in the property's organic gardens. Seasonal produce and freshness is the focus, and chef Mark does a lot to make dining here feel like a dinner party with friends, welcoming guests' suggestions and curiosities about the menu to share his passion and keep things original and innovative.
The main highlight of a stay at La Ferme de Georges is the accessibility it provides into the neighboring Lençóis Maranhenses park with its impressive series of freshwater lagoons. The park can be explored on foot, by horseback or in a 4x4 and itineraries can be easily adapted dependent on the water levels. The weather conditions also make the lagoons a fantastic for kitesurfing of all abilities and all equipment is provided by the staff. The area surrounding La Ferme de Georges is rich in natural beauty and is a fantatsic spot for birdwatching, with red ibis present in the afternoons. Cooking classes, Portuguese classes and help on the farm can also be arranged.

La Ferme de Georges is spectacularly located at the very edge of the natural park of Lençóis Maranhenses in Northeast Brazil, a dune landscape whose freshwater lagoons create one of the most impressive ecosystems and stunning scenery. The grounds cover several acres and sit between river and ocean near the tiny village of Atins.
When to go
The rainy season in Atins runs from January to May when the water in the lagoons of nearby Lençóis Maranhenses Park replenishes. This means that the best time to visit for those that wish to explore the park is between June to September when the water levels are still high and the fish are flourishing in the lagoons. The temperature is also pleasant during this period with strong sun but plenty of breeze.
