Set among 160 acres at the foothills of the lush Green Mountains, Windham Hill Inn encapsulates the best of Vermont, with its clapboard exterior, cosy guest rooms, wonderful local produce, glorious setting and range of facilities and local activities.
Vermont is a collection of small picturesque towns and its pastoral hallmarks — dairy farms, sugar maples and quaint river-valley inns — these are what create the unmistakable character of this charming state and Windham Hill Inn is the perfect point from which to explore it all.
The 19th Century farmhouse and barn are situated in the middle of this rolling countryside, a hidden oasis of peace and calm with glorious views to the hills. Katya the Innkeeper and her team of charming hosts welcome you depending on the time of day with freshly prepared cream teas, a glass of champagne on the terrace served with David and Andrew's fantastic gourmet treats or a chilled glass of wine watching the sun set over the Green Mountains. Surrounded by manicured gardens, its own herb garden and woods, the Inn has a selection beautiful suites and rooms and boasts an acclaimed restaurant that serves beautifully prepared seasonal cuisine, which is offered in either a three-course prix fixe or as a tasting menu. Jonathan Cartwright, Master Chef for Relais & Chateaux presides as executive chef over Windham Hill Inn as well as her sisters the White Barn Inn and Vanderbilt Grace. Be sure to order a bottle of wine from the extensive wine list, which features highlights from around the world.
There are 22 luxurious rooms including 11 suites, all housed in the old barn and the main farmhouse. Suites are decorated individually with an eclectic mixture of antiques and comfortable seating areas and many have fireplaces or cast iron stoves and soaking tubs plus wonderful views over the gardens and countryside. Fine linens, charming art, quirky personal touches, bathrobes and luxury toiletries plus an iPod dock and tea- and coffee-making facilities make these a home from home experience.
If you can manage a freshly cooked donut with strawberries for breakfast after a wonderful night's sleep with nothing but the owls to disturb you, you can then set off to explore the charming towns of Brattleboro and Grafton just to name a few. For the more energetic, there are wonderful opportunities for hiking, cycling, horseback riding, canoeing or just relaxing by their lovely pool with a picnic lunch for the more fainthearted.
