To start planning your vacation to Hidden Pond
We've all seen the movie - quaint log cabin in the woods with roaring fires, rocking chairs on the veranda, barbecues on the deck and plenty of hiking and biking, s'mores and campfires. Sound good? Well we think we've found the perfect spot plus it's pretty stylish to boot. Hidden Pond is just outside the picturesque harbor village of Kennebunkport Maine, summer residence of former presidents and superstar and is a collection of super-cute clapboard bungalows and two bedroom cottages dotted throughout birch woods.
The larger two-bedroom cottages come with fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, a wraparound deck with an outdoor dining area and seating and a barbecue. They can sleep up to five in two bedrooms plus a day bed, so ideal for families. The one-bedroom bungalows are perfect for couples looking for privacy and romance: high vaulted ceilings, screened porch with daybed and outdoor shower and fireplace. Every cottage and bungalow has its own décor and style but are designed to give a real New England home-from-home experience.
Hidden Pond has fantastic additional facilities and services. For culinary whizzes staying in the cottages the team at Earth Restaurant can deliver baskets stuffed with goodies to prepare sumptuous breakfasts or beach picnics, but it's also worth paying a visit to Earth itself. It's a beautiful whimsical and romantic space, rustic wooden walls, a suspended apple tree glittering with tiny lights, flickering candles and serves simple innovative farm-to-table dishes by James Beard award winner Ken Oringer. After dinner there are nightly bonfires with obligatory s'mores.
On site there are separate family and adult outdoor pools, morning yoga classes, a shed full of bikes to borrow and hiking trails galore. There is a shuttle to their sister property, the Tides Beach Club on Goose Rocks beach where kayaking and stand up paddle lessons can be organized. This way you can get the best of both worlds, enjoying the beautiful beach and ocean as well as the amazing wood. The Tree Spa is the perfect antidote to the activities: a rustic space high up in the tree tops.
Hidden Pond features 16 two-bedroom cottages and three bungalow cottages. The cottages each have their own characteristics and charm to make your stay memorable. With their private outdoor areas, day beds and peaceful surroundings relaxation is achieved. The two-bedroom cottages are perfect for accommodating families or friends traveling together, and the bungalow cottages are ideal for couples.
Hidden Pond is a fantastic small family resort and particularly suits children with an active, independent streak. They can borrow bikes, learn to paddle board at the sister property Tides Beach Club, go kayaking, take craft lessons and learn about survival skills, plant identification and animal tracking. Hidden Pond organizes some supervised kids activities at the beach and babysitting can be arranged.
Earth is the resort's stunning restaurant which overlooks the pond and nightly bonfire. With such settings, your dining experience here is bound to be special. The restaurant focuses on a 'farm to fork' motto; all the dishes are inspired by local fresh and seasonal produce to include some delicious meat and fish options. On Wednesday night they host a Backyard Lobster Bake, and very night there is a bonfire with s'mores.
The Tree Spa is found amongst the treetops with views of the beach forest, providing a haven for those seeking some precious time out. There is a range of massages, facials and body treatments on offer for guests that focus on relaxation and re-energising.
The resort also has two outdoor pools (one for adults only). There are morning yoga classes, guided hikes and bikes to borrow. Off site kayaking and stand up paddling (SUP) lessons can be organized at Hidden Pond's sister property the Tides Beach Club on Goose Beach and guests can also use their beach facilities.
On the educational side you can join the gardener and learn flower arranging, take watercolor lessons with the resident artist, there are craft lessons for kids and cookery and mixology classes.
Away from the lodge, horseback riding and tennis can be organized and Kennebunkport is a vibrant town with a good selection of cafes and restaurants, boutiques and art galleries.
