Average time to visit
Los Angeles has a year-round climate. Santa Monica enjoys moderate to warm temperatures, averaging 20 to 25 most of the year. Summer (June - September) is the peak-tourist season, this is when the weather is hottest but beaches can be over crowded. January and February are the rainiest months. If you are visiting in May, June or July, watch out for the 'marine layer', a cloudy overcast, almost fog-like cloud which may affect the beach and first mile or so of the coastal strip, especially in the mornings.

The Viceroy Santa Monica fuses classic sophistication and city chic to create a contemporary and luxurious boutique hotel two minutes from the beach at Santa Monica. The pool area is renowned as being one of the most glamorous in Los Angeles.
Although not having a huge amount of curb appeal, step inside the Viceroy Santa Monica and you are whisked away to a menagerie of contemporary urban chic and sophistication. From the white chaises longues adorning the lobby to the candlelit terraces that light up of an evening to the oasis like pool area, this is an escape into decadence, away from the buzz of Santa Monica outside.
Beyond the stylish interior, this boutique hotel also has a fabulous location. Just a few minutes walk from both the golden sands of Santa Monica Beach and the fine dining and superb shopping of Third street Promenade, its positioning is superb. Santa Monica Pier and vibrant Venice Beach are also both within easy reach, making this an ideal base for exploring Santa Monica and beyond.
Allow at least one evening to take advantage of the hotel's glamorous Cameo Bar. Lit up by candles, it spills out on to the terraces in romantic fashion, a perfect spot for a decadent pre-dinner cocktail or glass of fine Californian wine. On most evenings, Cast Restaurant is an outdoor dining event with comfortable leather armchairs adorning one side of the terraces, a fine setting for a gastronomic encounter.
Although a hotel wonderfully suited for couples, the Viceroy Santa Monica is also welcoming of families, and those especially with older children, will enjoy the great setting, plunge pools and fabulous guest rooms.
The hotel offers 162 rooms and suites. Those from the 6th floor upwards afford glimpses of the Pacific Ocean over the rooftops. Each room is designed in contemporary yet elegant style and features either one King bed or two small double beds.
The Viceroy Rooms offer pool or city views and have pillow top beds and Egyptian Cotton Linens as well as oversized showers, fully stocked mini bars and HD Sony TV's with DVD players. Bath products from Natura Bisse and ROIL can be found in the bathroom. In addition, the Grande Rooms offer expanded sitting areas with ocean, pool or city views and an even more spacious feel to them with oversized bathroom and King beds only.
The Empire Suites offer a separate lounge and bedroom and ocean views. A sleeper sofa and whirlpool tubs. They can be adjoined to a Viceroy room to make a sumptuous two bedroom suite.
The Monarch Suite is the Viceroy's Presidential calibre penthouse suite with full ocean views, lavish bathroom, separate living room and plenty of pampering extras, for the ultimate stay.
The hotel accepts children and offers interconnecting rooms for families traveling together. There is an outdoor pool and the hotel is just a couple of minutes from the beach.
Enjoy relaxing in the contemporary chaises longues in the Viceroy lobby or head across to Cameo Bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. Offering a chic lounge feel, illuminated by candlelight, the bar spills out on to the terraces, perfect for balmy LA nights. Next to Cameo, Cast offers sophisticated indoor / outdoor dining on white leather armchairs and checkerboard tables. Chef Tony DiSalvo's globally influenced menu is sourced from local markets and farms and concentrates on taste combinations and traditional techniques.
The outside terrace offers two guest plunge pools and poolside cabanas for rent. Inside there is a 24 hour well equipped fitness center. A guest library is the perfect space for a relaxed read or use of the complimentary computer.
Guests are invited to take part in the Sunday morning yoga classes in August. At other times of the year, private yoga, pilates, stretch and run classes are available for guests as well as guided hikes into Temescal Canyon, which climbs over 1000 feet in its first mile.
For guests who would like to take advantage of the surfing, there are a number of surf shops within an easy walk where rentals can be arranged.

The Viceroy has lots of style and quirky, contemporary charm from the moment you walk in. The beach is just a short walk across the road or if you dont fancy a beach day the chic pool area provides a luxurious place to relax. The staff are extremely welcoming and provide an outstanding service.

The Viceroy has lots of style and quirky modern eclectic charm from the moment you walk in. The pool area is a real draw it has a relaxed white pool -club vibe, with beautiful cabanas to relax in, and enjoy some morning yoga by the pool. The pool restaurant has a great brunch menu if there is something not on the menu be sure to ask the staff anyway and they will prepare you something unique. We recommend the ocean facing rooms for beautiful views, and its just a short 10 minute walk to the beach itself for sunny days along the pier.
