Los Angeles has a year-round climate. Summer (June - September) is the peak-tourist season, this is when the weather is hottest but beaches can be over crowded. January and February are the rainiest months. If you are visiting in May, June or July, watch out for the 'marine layer', a cloudy overcast, almost fog-like cloud which may affect the beach and first mile or so of the coastal strip, especially in the mornings.

Located in the heart of Santa Monica on a quiet residential street, the Palihouse is a fusion of old and new wrapped up in an historic building ideal for guests wishing something that little bit different yet within minutes of the beach and shopping.
Dating back from the days when Santa Monica used to be the last stop on the Los Angeles rail line, there has been a hotel in the Palihouse footprint since 1927. Now beautifully restored with Moorish and Mediterranean influences and reopened in mid 2013, the hotel offers beautiful suites and residences with delightful historic touches and all the comforts and contemporary touches of a newly renovated hotel.
With just 38 rooms and suites in total, guests are ensured a boutique and personal experience. From the delightful gardens surrounding the beautifully restored building through to the inviting guest lounge complete with deep comfy sofas, long sociable dining tables, intimate booths and fascinating art work. The lounge is open throughout the day for breakfast, coffee and snacks and lunch and is a comfortable escape both inside and outside on the tranquil courtyard for guests to enjoy.
The rooms and suites are a world away from "cookie cutter" style hotels. Reached by grand staircase or tiny original lift, this is all part of the historic experience. Yet step inside and there is no stuffiness or dated furnishings. Cool white linens, bright touches and luxurious fabrics are the order of the day with plenty of modern touches along the way. All but the standard guest rooms also offer a full kitchen, perfect for guests on longer stays. For families, the one and two bedroom residences and two Penthouse suites give room to spread out and breathe.
The location of the Palihouse is also much of its appeal. Just two blocks from the famous golden sands of Santa Monica beach and four blocks from the buzz of 3rd Street Promenade, it also retains a very residential feel, away from the madding crowd.
For guests who would like style, comfort and space and a great location, the Palihouse is a superb choice for Santa Monica stays.
The hotel offers just 38 rooms and suites, ensuring a personal and boutique experience. Each room blends residential comfort with classic and contemporary designs and many have lovely historic features including floor to ceiling windows and step out balconies.
Classic guest rooms are small but perfectly formed with comfortable queen size beds, smaller bathrooms and dressing rooms.
Studio Suites offer plenty of space and some have delightful character features such as picture windows. They also have a separate kitchen which is ideal for longer stays.
One and Two Bedroom Residence Suites are ideal for families with a separate lounge (no sofa beds but can accommodate a rollaway bed), a separate kitchen and bathroom.
Penthouse 1 is on the top floor of the hotel and perfect for families and has the added benefit of two balconies. There is a main lounge leading through to a twin bedroom on one side and a large family bathroom and King bedroom to the other side.
Penthouse 2 is next to Penthouse 1 and offers two bedrooms, one with a Queen bed and en-suite bathroom and the other with a king bed, lovely en-suite bathroom, dressing area and small balcony.
Both Penthouses can be linked together to make one fabulous four bedroom Penthouse. Please note that the penthouses do not have kitchens.
All suites offer complimentary internet, 40 inch TVs, luxurious bathrobes, hair dryers, ceiling fans and opening windows and mini bars. There is no air-conditioning in the rooms.
Children are welcome at the Palihouse although there are no particular facilities for them, babysitting can be arranged on request.
The hotel has delightful gardens to the front and a tranquil terrace at the back of the building. There is a communal lounge area which is also available for all day dining with an appetising menu that changes seasonally. In room dining is also available. The hotel does not have a liquor licence so only serves soft drinks.
Valet parking is available as well as limousine service on request. Linus "Dutchi" bikes can be rented from the hotel and "in suite" massages can also be arranged.
